Hooker 2055 Install question

I am going to install hooker 2055 headers and was wondering how hard it will be? I do have experience with putting headers on, but I want to know if i will have to worry about other mounts, etc. being in the way to install the headers? All input is greatly appreciated. The headers are going on a stock carbed 305.

Mine slid right in from the top, but i did have to slightly bend one of the brake lines with my hands.

Did you still have the emissions (AIR) stuff on your car?

no, i cut the tubes off and welded them shut. Shouldn't be a problem though even with them on.

Yay, PITA spark plug change jobs.

Its a PITA with the stock manifolds and A.I.R. tubes. Is the plug change worth with the headers?

Oh yeah, I can't help myself. I just ordered my headers from ACS (one of our sponsors). Hooker 2055's, AIR tubes cut-off. Gun Metal Grey (satin) finish, coated shorties and Y-pipe for $495, thidgen discount, and gift certificate.

Lots of money, but I feel good. Cause now i have a completely coated setup.

Ughh....don't mention A/C and Smog stuff. I swear, GM could have figured out a way to make it cleaner in the engine bay.

I just unbolted the whole acccessory bracket on that side of the engine, and moved it enough to slip the header in.

How did you guys modify that bracket...i have a hack saw but its a PITA...is a plasma cutter the only way. If so do you think a shop will do it for like $5 or something?

I just used a cutting disc on an air compressor to cut the right leg off of the bracket. Used a bench grinder to smooth the cut, and then used one of the manifold studs to mount it. Everything worked out perfect. No clearance problems and it all lined up.

The furthest back bolt on the passenger side right next to that heater/ac box was a b!tch to get out. make sure you soak em in blaster. Instructions said you had to jack up that side of the motor, i just slid mine in from the bottem w/o jacking the motor up. worked ok. I'm not running any of those brackets anymore either. They offer little to no actual support for the accessories, Someone told me they are only there to limit vibration. Mine are off, doesnt look like the engine vibrates more than it used to.

I got a gift certificate because I did some signature work for ACS. Thirdgen.org owners also get a discount simply by contacting them through thirdgen.org I was told.

In any case, I know for a fact they have a set of stearling silver coated hooker 2055's w/o A.I.R tubes. I just talked with them on Friday.

Summit took its sweet time getting the headers to ACS for coating though. They are shipping to me this Monday though.

Did you have your y-pipe coated too? I heard that after the third-gen discount a coated 2055 and coated y-pipe (with AIR tubes reversed??) cost around $600. Do they need to be reversed on an 88 bird with TBI? Also, is it cheaper to just have them remove the AIR tubes
