Flowtech Headers

http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/f...ain2.asp?cat=G

Anyone use these, have used them, or know anybody that has?

I'm considering getting them for the 355 in my 88 Camaro. I'm planning on eliminating the AIR system and these are the only headers that I can find that stand a chance at clearing my Moroso 7-Quart oil pan (kicked out sump). My only other alternative (that I can think of) is to go back to factory manifolds, and I don't want to do that.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have them and I got mine on sale coated from yearOne for about $400. I wish I would have not bought them. The quality is fine but the durabilty stinks. They were slightly warped at the head whcih i cured with thick gaskets. To this day I have yet to get the collectors to seal since they are so thin. I can't wait to get rid of them. Most shorty headers should yield the same clearance around the area you are concerned about.

I had them for 3000 miles, and gave them to my brother. The collector gaskets leaked, and like shifty I couldn't get them to seal properly. Where the primaries came through the mounting flange was uneven. I was very surprised that they sealed without issue. When I removed them though, the rear gasket on the passenger side did have a burn mark on it like it was starting to break thru.

Fitment was excellent though, really didn't have to modify anything to mount them up. Just had to unbolt the trans crossmember and drop it down an inch or so to get the headers to clear the bellhousing for install.

My hedman LT's are a completely different story though... Took quite a bit of work getting them in.

I had to notch the frame on the passenger side to fit those things on my old firebird. Wouldn't buy them again (only did the first time because they were the cheapest ones)...

Well just a few things to know, you'll need to jack the engine on the passenger side to fit the header in and definately use double gaskets at the collector, maybe triple.

you might want to switch to the moroso 6qt pan that was inteded for the 3rd gens. thats what i did, you can use same pick up tube, all you have to do is swap pans.

I have the creamic coated shorties and I have not had any problems with mine. They didn't slow my car down one bit compared to the old dynomax shorties I used to have. Mine also dropped right in with no problems. They still looked very nice after a bunch of driving also.
