exhaust manifold leaking???
okay so i got this nasty clicking , i started getting it about 3 weeks ago, and it just gets worst its driving me nuts , its coming from the passenger side of the engine, it sounds like its coming from the exhaust manifold, but wouldt my exhaust manifold looking a little black from the leaking?? i know i found a leak in my muffler, that was taken care of, it just seems to get worst, anything i can be looking for if there is a leak?, my car sounds like a diesel engine

yeh i was thinking that too, but wouldnt there be noticable signs of leaking? i know i had some nasty black stuff on my muffler, i was thinking id be able to see it on my exhaust manifolds to if it were leaking , i guess i might as well replace it just to be sure

I don't know if im 100% right, but im pretty sure I read on here that the stock manifolds do not use gaskets. I am in the middle of a header install right now. My car has been untouched by the previous owner and my back two manifold bolts on the driver side were loose. I unscrewed them with my finger! But I did not have a exhaust leak.
Id try getting a wrench and checking your bolts.

well today i had the chance to check the bolts on the manifold, they were pretty loose, some even almost off !, i got the driver side tightened up real good, the only problem is the leak is coming from the passenger side, i had a hard time getting to the bolts, so i only tightened about two of them
, i think im going to have to lift the car up to get to the ones on the bottom, its not as loud now, but not satisfied with it , hope when i tighten the bottom ones it shuts up!

My manifolds had no gaskets either. I used the gaskets and bolts that came with my Hooker 2055's and no leaks
I did not use grease or sealant. Thread Starter

its a reach, but much easier under the car. If you hate using jacks and stands like me, I'd get some ramps. it's nice for getting under there to do engine/tranny stuff. btw haynes says tighten the middle bolts then do the outer bolts... good luck

well today i had my mechanic check it out for me, it seems that i am missing 2 bolts, im going to the dealer tomorrow he saids its pretty hard to get , i hope this solves the problem
thats crazy how some of you didn't have gaskets...i guess who ever had my car before put the gaskets on. when i blew a manifold gasket it was near the bottom so i couldn't see it. i put a new one on and it fixed it
