My new dual setup

We finished it today. This one took probably 4 hours total to do, so it wasn't bad. It sounds nice too, although it's a bit quiter than I'm used to. It has that nice rumble, but the exhaust is so quiet you can hear all the air rushing out of the tailpipes at idle.

It's dual edelbrock stainless 3 chambers, with side exit right in front of the rear tires. It's 2.5" all the way back, and we still need to make the H-Pipe. I'm thinking I'll use oval tubing for that to maintain ground clearance. As it sits right now, I still have 4.75" at the lowest point. Might scrape on a tall speedbump, but I think I'll be fine.

My dad also got the idea to make custom "mandrel" bends to go around the frame by the trans. Turned out pretty good. I notched V's in the tubing at the angle needed, used a hammer to collapse the V on itself, and then he welded it all up. I'll post a pic of that too.

All in all, I'm only out $73 dollars since I already had the pipe and got a good deal on the muffs.

I'll add these pics to the dual sticky when I get a chance.

Those edelbrocks are only 3.5" thick, BTW. That's the main reason I went with them.

Any pics of it on the ground? Looks like it might be a bit low.

I would be worried about ground clearance with that setup..how much room do you have when it is on the ground.

Oh and get rid of that POS Fram filter, they are the worst filters ever designed.

Just as low as you see it on the ramps, it's fully resting on the suspension. Like I said before, I have almost a full 5" clearance. No issues pulling into driveways straight, but I have yet to do speedbumps.

I don't know if I'd call FRAM the worst filter designed, but they're definately not the best. The big fault in them, the check valve, we don't have to worry about because gravity keeps the oil in the filter while the car is off. Since I can't get Delco's around here anymore, I'm searching for a new favorite. The ways things have been going with all the mods, I've done about 5 oil changes in 2500 miles.

Hey that's really similar to my plan.... except I will use the Spintech 2 1/4" thick low profile mufflers..... one under each floor pan kind of like that.

I've been running the K&N's on my car and they rock. I rum Mobil 1's on my truck and Napa Gold (Wickes) in my other cars. All of the cars have Mobil 1 in them.

That exhaust wouldn't work for me, my subframes are in the way. It looks good though, if there is some clearance.

Nice one, I like the set-up onebinky. It's nice and simple, looks as though it's be quite easy to replicate. Not sure about how it would go with SFC's though. Will you be posting some pics of the H-Pipe in this thread once it's doen?. At what point are you thinking of placing the H-pipe?

Any pics of the notched 'V's onebinky?

Sorry for the delay, I just got home.

They're huge driveon ramps that my dad made out of some huge aluminum beams he got. They stand about 30" high IIRC. His email is farmerto@netzero.net if you have any q's for him. They're pretty cool

The third picture shows all the notched V's, it's all the welds that are right after another on the pipe right off the header.

I'm gonna try and pass the oval H-Pipe right under the trans X-Member. If I can't put it there, I'll have to take the HP loss because there is nowhere else for it to go.

I'll have to look into the NAPA gold series filter, I've heard alot of good on them. I read somewhere that the silver is identical, can you confirm that?

EDIT: one of the next mods I plan is some SFC's if I can find room for them. I think I can snake the pipe off the side of the rear subframe, bring it forward and over the exhaust, and weld it to ther normal spot on the front. Sounds alot trickier than I think it'll actually be once I get into it.

I don't know if the Silver is the same as the Gold or not, but the price difference is pennies. I have a good buddy that works there and he doesnn't ever sell me anything but their top shelf stuff. If I'm doing something, I'm going to do it with the best parts available, first.

When you try to get your subframes in there, I want pics. If you can get a set of connectors in there, and have the exhaust there without bottoming out on everything, I'm next in line. I want to run the pipes through my ground effects and out right in front of the rear tire.

are those the $119 Hedmans?..if they are, those are the ones i have. right now all i have is the headers and Hedman 2.5" extensions. i have them pushed up as far as they will go and i still scrap on high speed bumbs and some drive ways. its also way too loud. i don't like how you can see the pipes hanging down neither. if someone would make a nice, custom trans. cross member (kinda like the Mustangs), i think they could make a good profit....all i can think of right now is using oval tubing but i still don't think that will help much cuz i plan on lowering my car.

I think mine were like $134 from summit shipped, probably the same ones. I haven't had any issues at all with mine yet though.

hmmm, maybe a nice custom heat shield would take care of that.....

The floor of the car probably gets heated up more by the transmission than by the exhaust.

That's fine, but I charge a $20 'Idea' fee. Paypal it to me

Because of the way the subframe is setup, there is at least a few inches between the floorpan and the muffs there. So like apeiron said, no issue there either.

Also, no issues with the fuel/brake lines. It only intersects the lines once, and it's far enough where it's not a safety issue. Also would be negligable performance difference in fuel temps. Couple degrees tops.
