Please forgive my stupidity, but I don't know much about headers...

I was thinking about getting a set of headers to make more power. However, my car is a daily driver and I would like to keep the emissions (AIR, etc). I've read in a previous post that shorty headers make more power in mid to upper RPM's, while long headers make power down low. If I decide to go with shorty headers, will they work on my Firebird with factory A.I.R.?

If so, could someone recommend a set? Also (again not to be stupid), but are shorty headers alot easier to install than the long ones? I read about people jacking-up their motors... as a novice, this would not be realistic for me to do. I guess this also leads into what Y-Pipe to use?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

From the tone of your post, I 'd say go with shorties as they are easier to install. You may want to do a search between edelbrock tes and the SLP headers and see which you may prefer. I think hooker has a nice set as well, but I am unsure if they have been covered as extensively here.

Hedman, hooker, mac, SLP, and edelbrock all make shory headers for your car that have AIR hookups. It all boils down to budget and if you want them coated or not. You might want to send the guys at ACS (sponser at top) an email. They arw on the ball when it comes to customer satisfaction.

I have them and they are garbage. Nothing about these hedders are good. They are not emissions compatable also.

Why worry about the emmisions bs. You have no inspection to worry about. If you are set on shorties I would go with the hookers.
