Can I use high temp RTV to seal band clamps?

Hey, has anybody ever put high temp RTV under a band clamp to get it to seal better? It was sealing perfectly but I had to remove it and I guess I didn't get it back on in the same position and now it leaks a little bit.

Thanks

Why not just spend like $15 and get it welded?

Because then I won't be able to remove the exhaust from the car, which is nice to be able to do when changing the clutch etc..

Ok, I see what you're saying... but no, I wouldn't use RTV. I tried that, and it blew it all out in less than a week. Maybe try that exhaust patch tape under the clamp. That would work much better.

i have used that on temporary exhaust connections to seal them up when welding wasnt an option and it works well. i always had to clean it off when i made a permanent connection, never had it blow out. i agree completely, the Permatex Ultra Copper is the stuff to use.

well u said you dont want to weld it but you want the seal of a weld, you could try JB weld. this part wont have much stress on it, however i dont know how easy it is to get the stuff off. never tried that.

you can NOT use JB weld on a exhaust system.. or in any high heat area.
