what muffler will flow most look here!ok guys the maro in my sig is still at the body
ok guys my camaro in my sig is at the body shop getting worked on so ive been driving my 87 bird thats got the 2.8 auto in it. i love the car and all but when i took it to the track the best i could get was a 17.17 at 78 mph. that is with stock exhaust manifolds, 2 1/4" pipe where cat was and a full 2 1/2" dynomax super turbo catback #17493. u name it and ive got it done to the motor too. it was just rebuilt about 55,000 mi ago with a slightly bigger cam, cai and full ignition mods. anyways i would really like to break 16's with this thing. i have a few mufflers at home to try. basically what im asking is from the mufflers im about to list which one will put me to 16's. ok ive got a hooker aerochamber 2 1/4" side inlet and center outlet, a flowmaster 40 series 2 1/4" side inlet and center outlet, and a 12" long dynomax 2 1/2" bullit muffler. which one will put me to 16's because if one of them can i will be putting it on.

Personally i'd go with the flows, but that's just me and im sure others will disagree.
the flowmaster is prob the most restrictive of them all. the bullet is your best bet since its a stright through design.... on another note, i don't think cam and ignition mods is a fully decked v6. if you get some head work done, you'll cut 16's no prob with the exaust

Did huge cam, underdrive pulleys. Heads and intake porting...have flowmaster...and pf&e headers & y-pipe... 3.73 gears, 2800 stall, transgo shift kit...blah, blah...
Car only hit 16.8. though this is with the 3.4...the tranny was sticking and the car was not hooking...So I would think there was some easy room for improvement...weight 3755...heavy!
Anyway I found the stock exhaust with only a flowmaster was too restrictive. I added a cut out and took it to the dyno. I gained a good 4.3 TQ & 8.2HP just from opening the cut out. Floored the dyno guy. Said people normally don't gain that much....
SOOOO in your case...
So I have a bad exhaust system. So I would think its the lack of head work and porting on your car. I've heard alot can be gained from just a good valve job! Rebuild the distrubuter & make sure it is shimmed right.
Also you said slightly larger cam...well mine is huge for a 6 and I had to bump up the timing to 19-20 to make up for the huge overlap. I can run on reg unleaded with no ping. try to see if anything is hiding in your timing. Don't go crazy. Adjust it one at a time and drive the car. If it pings back it off...

Once you replace the 2 1/4" "cat" with 2 1/2" pipe, and put on headers (i have no idea where you could find headers for your car lol, Redraif may know) you should get a lot closer to the 16's.
