exhaust clearance with underbody

Before I go hacking into my 25 feet of newly order T-304 3" stainless, I was wondering how close I can get the tubing to the underbody of the car, be it frame rails or floor pans. The closer the better because ground clearance is going to kill me with hooker LTs up front. And how about the fuel lines? I have seen some pretty close setups here, a bit unsafe if you ask me, but who knows? Not me, that's why I am here.

1/2" will usually suffice for protection from heat sources.
