Exhaust wrap -> glowing collector?

I put on some exhauste wrap on my SLP headers when I put together the 415cui. Now my collector on the RH side is glowing some, no much, could this be due to the exhaust wrap?

It is only glowing on the RH side, not the LH side.

/N.

Sounds like the timing needs to be advanced.

The convertor to the pass side gets real hot much quicker than the other plus my floor mat above the cat has melted....

Guess its time to buy new ones......

are you running ported or manifold vac advance?

if its doing it at idle, it could be because you dont have enough inital advance.. adding in vac advance at idle should help solve that.

if its doing it while driving around, you might want to have the advance come in sooner.

its a TPI engine so its fuel injected.

Idle 32 deg
Cruise 45 deg
WOT 34 deg havent tuned it yet.......

And it does not glow on idle only after a cruise..........

Did you ever get this problem sorted out?

I'm having the same issue with my car at the moment.

I'm curious to know whwat the problem was as well.

Maybe a toasted injector on that bank or something to make it run a bit lean on that bank?

I am going to take a wild stab here and say it is the header wrap. Header wrap is basically insulation. It traps heat inside the exhaust and it would not be to far fetched if they glowed. header wrap is usually frowned upon because headers can be damaged (not desinged to run that hot) and oil and such can soak in them and cause fires. Take the wrap off and see what happens.

i had headers glow on me and it turned out to be the rockers holding the valves open. i loosened them and it was solved. this is the first time you fired the engine with headers and wrap correct? how about the first time the engine was fired with just Headers or did you fire it all new i.e. headers, engine, and wrap? If you ran the engine with the headers and then put wrap on then the wrap is your problem. If this is the first time you ever started the engine than i would say your problems lie with timing or adj valves (rocker arms).

OK Hdr wrap SUX, It traps in heat and moisture it kills the life of a hdrs (coated or not ) by at least 75 percent, that is why there a only a few places left to get that JUNK!!!!, A $10 can of high temp hdrs paint will do you more justice, and most likely solve the overheating"red" glow anomoly!!!~
