Too many tubes

If anybody has a stock camaro, that is carbureted, what are all of these tubes?!! Theres sensors, and tubes all connected to one another traced back to the carb. Then after about a mile of tubing, they lead to a canister. I took one of the tubes off, and there was gas inside of it. Emmisions? What would i do if I wanted to change the Carb??? What were they thinking?

That sounds like the charcoal canister. You can remove it, but your car with stink if you do. Its basically just a vent for the gas tank that absorbs the gas fumes.

I was messing around with it today, and i unplugged one of the tubes from a check valve type thing, and gas dripped out of it. That was the line leading from the canister to a check valve. It looks to me like its taking gas, not vapor, or its taking too much?

The previous owner on my car trashed those rubber lines, and I can smell the gas every time I brake or stop the car, even inside the car with the windows shut. It sucks.

I took mine out.... I put a big nut in the line then clamped it down with thoose metal clamps with the screws.

I can smell nothing even with my nose to it.

And your tank is therefore not vented.

GangsteressRide, it is possible to get gas in vapor lines if the purge is not operating correctly. There should be a decal showing a schematic of the components and routing for the system under the hood of your car. If not, check the FAQ forum, I posted a pic of one such decal a little while ago.

I've often considered re-hosing that spider web to relocate the big valve at the front of the engine to another place, such as closer to the canister. But, so far I haven't gotten up off the couch long enough to get the necessary hoses from the parts store and take the time to actually do it.

Yeah, how come when I take my gas cap off a bunch of pressure rushes out? (or maybe in, I just hear a whooshing sound)
