more SLP headers issues...

this time it's about the accessory mounts/studs. my headers are in, but where the ac and alt braces go, there is no way (stud or not) that the braces can mount up to the stud, because there is no clearance to do so. in other words, the spacer for the stud is right next to the pipe itself and there is barely enough room for the bolt head, let alone the brace to go on it. the only thing i can see to do is to grind down the side of each brace for it to fit over the stud, but i'm not too cool with having to do that. anybody else with any other ideas?

Thats why SLP sells a new A/C bracket, the stock one will not fit.

and everybody says the SLP headers are the way to go. with all the fitment, and clearance issues that i hear everyone complain about, SLP headers sound like a big fat pain in the ***. my buddy had a set that hit the steering shaft, SLP said it was because the motor mounts were worn out. Hate the edelbrocks all you wan, mine bolted right in and have worked well for me.

I had to grind down one of mine and took a hammer to it to rebend it. I only have to do one of the brackets like that though.

I had no problem with installing 1 5/8 SLP headers on my 92 RS. I bought the kit along with the heads and Y pipe. !st time doing a header swap.

Hey 1meanZ how do you like the Zexel Torsen Posi? I have but have yet to install it in my 92RS. STilling putting my motor together.

The edelcrocks are crap, slps are a better design, better quality, better appearance, better materials, and a better fit IMO.

with new motor mounts, they actually are a good fit. had to raise the eng on the driver side to drop it in, but i read that in another post ahead of time, so since everything is not all together yet (drivetrain wise), it was easy for me. i put new motor mounts (e/s poly's) in during this rebuild, too, so both sides seem to fit ok for now - trans is not in, so once it's in and everything is in final place, i might have something else to say... i did have to rebend the water line that runs along the pass side frame (coming from the heater core) cuz the header was right against it, but other than that, seems to be ok. i also cut off the unnecessary "spacers" on the flanges so that i could use as many locking bolts as possible.

Well, I have posted this picture before, but here it is again. These are SLP 1 3/4 headers with new polyurethane motor mounts. They went in fine and have plenty of clearance.
P.S. The brake line has been relocated since the photo.

No i know better than to "own" a set, but i've had the misfortune to have installed two sets and seen a few cars with them.

Here's a question on the SLP stuff.

I have done all kinds of headers, long tubes etc, and I'm wanting to go with the 1-3/4" SLP shorties for my 441ci motor. Yeah, I know, they'll choke the motor. BS. Anyways, I want stainless and I don't feel like dicking with a bunch of Y-pipe issues.

So, that being said, I'll be using an Iron Eagle block with 9.325" deck, along with Dart Pro 1 230cc heads. Will it plumb up?

If there's some interference with something like a redundant A/C bracket or outdated steering shaft, I think that I can deal with it. What I'm more interested in is what the SLP 1-3/4" flange looks like up against something like a FelPro 1326.

Thanks!

Sounds like you still want to go with something that will really flow, IMO if i was you i'd get a set of the SLPs then change the collectors to some that actually open up to 3" then fabricate a Y pipe anyway.

Hmm, not a bad idea. Maybe to 3", then set the Y-pipe coming together to 3-1/2 or 4".

Wonder if there's anything that'd bolt up as is? either way sounds like a little fab work but not too bad.

I havent been able to find anything like that which will just bolt up, you can get a dual 2.5 to single 3.5" merge from jegs made by flowmaster and flowmaster sells a universal 3.5" piping kit which seems like it would work well, and only around $80.
