I like my 80 series flowmaster but some like the new super 40 series. I believe your american thunder is an 80 series though. I think it is made by flowmaster but i'm not sure. Anyway, thats my 2 cents. My son has the AT on his 95Z28 and it doesnt sound as good as my 80 series. Maybe cuz I got 56 more cubes...

I like function, that's why I don't like mufflers or cats. Wastes power, now I know it makes the car much louder, but at least it's for the power increse. Import canisters don't do much (if anything) for power, but up's the sound level substantially. (to give the illusion of power) I saw an nissan 350Z, the other day all souped up, and sounding like an F1 car, I asked him about it (he pulled in to the parking lot where I was loitering) and gave me a little run down. Titanium pipes. I thought that's sweet, form and function. I just think most people that own imports will get a loud muffler with a huge tip as thier first mod, then never mod thier car any more.

don't know first mod for my car was to remove the stock manifold (which is by far worse then yours) and the cats and put a header instead
still have the stock exhuast after that though
want to replace it as well being mine is the baffle 3 pass design which sucks to a straight through muffler

it should help out a little

and most mufflers I think are fairly close to the same design stock
baffled like crazy

either way though power increase just from changing a muffler isn't that big of a difference though on most any car. and think about it though how many ppl owning camaros or any domestic maybe change the exhuast put a K&N filter on there and call it good or maybe do a few other mods like upgraded spark plugs and wires and then say ok good enough?

not trying to start problems but just noting some irony here

and sorry to hijack the thread

as far as loud mufflers on my camaro I had some turbo mufflers with turn downs under my ***
it was loud enough that's for sure but you know the drone on the freeway and the inability to drive around and not wake anyone up or being able to surprise the g/f kinda sucks at times

I really don't understand when you guys say you want something louder than a 3" American Thunder system. You are not going to get a louder street-legal sound than this system. Sure, people like how the Hooker system sounds; but is it louder than the Flowmaster? NO. The loudest street-legal system is going to be headers, 3" y-pipe, 3" high flow cat, and 3" cat-back. The only thing that is going to differ is the tone of the muffler, NO muffler is going to be louder than your existing 80 series on that system. So, if you want REALLY loud, loose the cat or get a cut-out.

I've got headers and a Flowmaster on mine and it is pretty loud, but I noticed when I first put the Flowmaster on I didn't have any turndowns on it, just straight back out of the muffler and it had a much louder throatier tone than when I put the turndowns on. It is still loud, just toned down a little. Also those flat rectangle tips off of the newer camaros have a different tone, kinda echo-e, just something to keep in mind.
Which ever way you decide to go you should consider getting it coated, doesn't change the sound but it will gaurantee you a longer life out of it and that polished aluminum finish under the rear sure looks nice!

...True. And saying you like the taste of dirt is also based on your "opinion" of what tastes good.

....I've heard some pretty fast imports that didn't sound like bumble bees. I'm pretty sure "MOST" of the fart pipe mufflers out there are strictly for attention.

Yep. But all too often they call attention to an '86 Carolla with no paint, riding on 3 donuts, but still has a new body kit, and a 4 foot wing. Some people just don't have any priorities...

get headers, a high flow cat, 3" tubing all the way back, and a 40 series Flowmater or Spin Tech... or if you want to be obnocious, go with Basani like those rustangs..

i saw on a sheet some one posted on here a while back that Basani had the highest decible rating for a muffler.

or do it the cheap way, headers and a turn down right after the Y pipe if you are using shorties.:lala:
