Hooker Quality Control?

So I got my Hooker Cat-back a couple weeks ago, opened it up, and there was a nice 1/4" dent on the I-pipe. I consulted Summit, they said to return it and they'd reimburse me for shipping, and send me a new one. So I did.

I got the new Cat-back today, and the SAME dent, in the SAME place! WTF? Is this a mounting point and intentionally supposed to be there? Or is there a quality control problem w/ Hooker?

Has anyone bought a hooker cat-back from summit lately? Has it had this dent in it too? Or is this SUPPOSED to be there for some odd reason?

Thanks in advanced....

My cat-back had the same dent. I am pretty sure it is put there on purpose so that you have adequate axle clearance. It looks like a formed dent rather than a mistake upon closer inspection. I thought the same thing when I opened mine up.

I just ordered a Mufflex 3.50" cat back system and it better not have any dents in it for the money I just forked out. Allen

Thanks for the response Shifty.

How big do you think that this actually makes the pipes now? I mean, when I ordered a 3" mandrel bent cat-back, I expected it to be 3 inches all the way back.... maybe that's just me being picky with my 300 dollars?

Its funny how every other 3" caback on the market doesn't need that clearence but hooker does. That kinda sucks for everyone who thought they were getting a true 3" catback. It only flows as well as its smallest section.

First of all...the impression is there for clearance on the panhard bar support.

Second...that far back in the stream the exhaust volume is a lot less ....so that little impression will not hurt a thing.

They're are bigger fish to fry out there than worrying about that little spot.

I don't recall that dent on mine, but it's been a while since I put it on.

I posted pics of the cat-back off the car a while back, I'll try a search

While I agree with you, I still think it is bad to lie to your consumers. They advertised a 3" mandrel bent cat-back. Not a "mostly" 3" mandrel bent, and hammered cat-back.

If I knew this was going to be the case I would have gotten a flowmaster cat-back and just replaced the muffler w/ a hooker.

Boy, these guys don't know nothing. Being a long time expert mechanic I guess I'm the only one who knows that recess is a remote thrust mount location for the new design tapered roller muffler bearing. Only the best systems have this feature.

I brought the 3.5inch Catback From Mufflex last year. It did not have any dent like the hookers. I was impress by the quality! Fitted perfectly even in the upper axle place.

Don't worry Allen your Mufflex Catback's gonna be just fine like u expected.

A lot of them do, including SLP and some of the larger stock pipes.

I'll bet that you won't see the difference on a flow bench... the 90* bend before and after that are a bigger restriction then that little dent, and the muffler is a much bigger restriction.

send it back if your so bent out of shape about it, no pun intended. that dent is supposed to be there so the rearend doesnt hit the int pipe.

hell even with that dent, it will flow better than the flow catback with a restrictive 80 series muffler.

I DID return it... hoping it wasn't meant to be there. Then I got one back in return with the same dent (thus my original post )

Everyone here is saying it's not going to be that restrictive, so thats all I care about right now lol.

I would have liked to have known about this dent prior to purchasing it though, and there were no posts that I could find about such dent, so thought I would put one out there for anyone else wondering the same thing about their new hooker catback
