80 series question
I want to put a new exhaust on my 305 camaro and after researching I think I want to go with the flowmaster 80 series muffler. I would like to do the whole exhaust system (from the converter back) but i've found out that flowmaster doesn't sell a complete system with the 80 series muffler. So my question is, if I wanted an 80 series muffler, would I have to buy all of the other pipes and stuff separate? If this is the case would it just be better to buy a kit from flowmaster, like the force 2 or the american thunder. Sorry for the trouble, but i could'nt find an answer in here. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

So the American Thunder system does come with an 80 series muffler. I never knew what kind of mufflers the systems came with because it doesn't say anything about the muffler anywhere. Thanks for the info.

It says on their site that it comes with the cross flow 80-series muffler...but yeah, ALL of the American Thunder Flowmaster cat-back systems come with the 80-series cross flow. The Force II systems come with a 30-series single driver side outlet. I have the 3" American Thunder system bolted to a 3" Catco cat. Sounds badass and looks great too.

i use to have the 80 series, it sound good till about 3000 rpm, after that i hated it. i have the hooker 3" catback, and it puts the 80 series to shame, sounds better and flows a lot better, i think it cost less too

Hey IROCThe5.7L and v8nate92RS, you guys said you had the american thunder exhaust system, do you think it sounds like crap after 3000 rpm?

Absolutely not. Actually, I think mine sounds the best at 3000 Rpm +. Thats when mine starts getting really loud. Maybe motor, pipe size..etc plays a factor

So i've decided to take my camaro to a muffler shop and just have them do the exhaust (3 inch from the cat back with 80 series muffler). As long as the tubes are mandrel bent, it should definitely improve the sound, right
? I've heard it might take a couple of weeks for the muffler to break in, is that true also?
Thanks for all the help,
Monte

not nessecarily, a flowmaster uses baffles, which really don't really require any "breaking in". glass packs or strait through mufflers use packing, which will change tone and volume as they build up with carbon deposits. i had the 80 series which carried on the same tone thoughout the whole time i had it, i recently replaced it with a hooker cat back, and it has steady made a changed in volume and sound over the last few weeks...

Does hooker not use baffles/chambers?

i run mine on the stock cat and it sounds nice.. interior sound is noticeable with the windows down, and you can still hear it with the windows up
but i also got hooker headers with hooker y pipe and a L98
it sounds very good at 2500rpms + and with a gutted or high flow cat, it will only get better!! with my 2800stall it sounds very nice since i can keep the rpms up! LOL
i do admit it took sometime for the tone to get deeper and nicer. at first it was just alright and abit raspy and crackly but in a month it changed well. then the headers went on and its deeper and abit less raspy and killed the crackling
and the hotter it gets, the deeper it gets and better it sounds in my opinion. i love it but want something abit louder and flowing abit better.
have someone drive it and stand behind it... it should sound very nice... and pretty loud. i can hear it inside my house when its outside in the driveway idling....
and get a cam and some good heads/intake and no doubt in my mind it will be perfect! more air being pushed out the motor, the louder it will get

Finally I got the exhaust done. It sounds awesome! Flowmaster exhuast from the cat back with an 80 series muffler, and they put magnaflow exhaust tips that look really nice. A little pricey but i'm happy.
