ok i just went to the auto parts store and the guy was freakin out that i wanted 94 suburban wires....he said they wont fit. Is this true? He called someone and asked about wires for a "small block with headers" and then went into the back and came out with 46 dollar wires. Does that seem high price for plain old wires?

Those where probably universals. I use 'em. lot easier to get a clean install. You cut to lenght and terminate the wires yourself with either a crimper or pliers/screwdriver. Prefer my MSD crimpers to the manual method, though.

Hmmm... to my knowledge there arnt really fully assembled wires that will work as every set of headers and setup are a bit different.

Sorry to jump in people, but DAMN!!! Listen to what they say dude, they know what they are talking about. If you would have just jacked the engine up you would have had the headers in 2 weeks ago. The good people at your (and any ones) local parts store dont know S**T!! You will find this out if you ever do a older model 350 swap in a 3rd Gen. And you would you lose your AC if it works, it is a everyday car correct??And you dont care about performace, correct?? Trust me it sucks sweating!! And dont be afraid to unbolt things and put them back together, it helps you become more knowlegable working on cars, how do you think most people learn how, they just jump right in. Just listen to what these people have to say, PLEASE!!

lol, i couldnt stop laughing at the short bus comment

i got the wires anyway at another parts store cause the one i first went to didnt have the fan switch. They fit fine, i forgot to update..... What if the wires are longer than stock? There is one spark pluq wire that is short and touches against the header tube, i could re-route it using a longer wire...i can do this without any negative effects right?

SHORT BUS!!! i did get a 3.56 GPA in hs, so im not totally stupid, just worried about my car

Re-routing it would be fine but you could go get a fiberglass heat boot that slips on the header so the plugs wouldnt get burnt, click on my sig and look at mine for an example.

yeah, i saw those in summit catalogue; im getting them. I need to get some heat shield too....is it bad that the headers are touching the coolant line that goes to the firewall? (it is black metal line next to the strut tower) Can i use exhaust tape from walmart as a heat shield?

i dont think it matters if it touches the coolant lines but i dont have a heater so i dont really know for sure, but exhaust tape should work, BTW the spark plug boots are the best $50 dollars i ever spent on my car!!

The small wire goes on the small terminal, the big ones and the battery cable go on the big one.

ALL the wires on the big terminal, except the wire with the small ring (that one goes on the small terminal).

I thought you labeled these.

The only wire that doesnt go on the large center terminal is the solenoid wire. Its black/purple or some color other then red or orange. That one goes on the smaller side terminal closest to the engine.

i need heat shields for the wires. Wire seperators wont work for this because of the Edelcrap design. I need heat shield for the wires, not necessarily the boots.

i was thinking of getting THE-14250

more info and pics here!! https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=315832

ok, it seems like ive been posting to myself latley. I started up the maro again and gave it a few revs then the smoke came. I get under the car and see that it is comming out of the headers, this isnt exhaust gas, its like buring smoke, and it was smoking after the car was off. I cant really get a smell out of it, i sniffed it in (saw the smoke going into my nose) and it didnt really smell like anything....

maybe its spray lube still inside there? Maybe its the coating?

its only comming out of the drivers side

probably just grease from your hands or antifreeze you may have gotten on them or something, nothing to worry about unless your HI-Tech coating is coming off, that would suck

its the inside of your new pipes... the heat is reacting with new metal.. usually sticks around for a few hours, but after a few hours of running it will go away

Put your old check valves back on, and then buy a box of rubber caps at autozone. They are made by HELP and come with 4 or 5 different sizes in one box (two of each size in the box). I think you need 5/8" ones.

Nope. The valves are check valves, and are supposed to let air in but not exhaust gas out.

the way your headers are designed makes them fit easier and lets you route the plug wires easier. I was cheap so i got Edelcraps. I dont care if they arent the best performance wise, i just wanted to do my exhaust all the way because i was taking most of the pipe off.

My headers where made to clear angled spark plugs. That is why they are easier to route the wires...i think BTW...Flowtechs suck compared to these Hedmans

Just got mine!

Hey guys I just got my SLP headers today and will be installing them on the weekend. Would it be a good idea to buy the kit or should I just buy the parts I need at my local auto parts? Well here's a pic of them. There 1 3/4 with air.

BT283, your headers are easier to route the plug wires because you don't have AIR tubes. FWIW, I ran my wires over the top like yours with a set of SLP headers with AIR. The only way it worked was with old style perimeter bolt valve covers, moroso plug wire looms that bolt to the outer valve cover bolts by the headers, and a big f*n prybar to persuade the AIR tubes out of the way enough to run the wires down without hitting. Since I just recently cut the AIR tubes off and had them jet-hot coated, it's one less headache, and looks much cleaner. I have never done a set of edelbrocks and run the wires from the top...they just don't fit without touching a tube.

Hey dan, can we rename you short bus ? j/k

You can have a helmet for an avatar!!

Depends what comes with "the kit" and how much it costs. I thought they wanted over $100 to bolt their headers up.

You will need:

Exhaust gaskets-fel pro 1404
2 donut gaskets-walker 31500 or equivalent
A set of header bolts (3/8" with 7/16" head)
4 Y-pipe bolts and nuts-3/8"x2 1/4" coarse
A 30 or 45 degree bend to go from their y-pipe to your converter.

I would not use clamps on the y-pipe. I would mock it all up and weld it.

the kit is not really nessesary.

you need headder gaskets, y-pipe dougnuts, heat shield for you fan wire, bolt for the dipstick tube, I recoment 12point 3/8 header bolts, it does not even come with all the bolts I would hvae included. I ended up getting 3 allen head 3/8 bolts for the locatins you are supposed to re-use you factory bolts.

I bought it out of lazyness. it was like $30. but like I said I ended up still getting some of my own hardware that I feel the kit hsould have came with.
