Is there any way to keep the stock tips when upgrading exhaust??

Is there any way to keep the stock tips when upgrading exhaust??
Within the next 2 months i'll be upgrading my exhaust. Right now, i'm almost positive that i'll be getting the hooker catback (barring any unforseen domestic problems with it being 'too loud'), but i'd like to keep the stock, or stock looking tips. I know the dynomax and edelbrock kits have tailpipes that are identical to stock, and i am wondering if there is any place that sells 'stock' tailpipes that will fit on the hooker muffler....

Just cut off the ones that are on there and have them re-weld it to the new muffler?

Well from what i heard the outlets on the hooker muffler are like 2 1/2 inches and the stock outlets are like 2 or 2 1/4. So the stock pipe wont really fit...
Is there any aftermarket place that sells them?

I just put the Hooker Cat-Back on my car. I didn't like the looks of the Hooker tail pipes, so I simply had the stock tail pipes reinstalled--they fit fine, 2 1/2, I think. Sounds great (Hooker headers, Hi-Flow Catco Cat, and Hooker Cat-back).

They have adapters if your stock tailpipes are in good shape. Most shops can easily fabricate replicas though.

JamesC, are the stock tailpipes really 2 1/2?? Can someone confirm this? If they are that would be great. My car has 46k miles and has never been driven in winter so the tips/tailpipers are in really good condition (i have a pic but its not uploaded onto cardomains so i cant post it).
So what is it, are the stock tailpipes 2 1/2 or are they smaller and i need adapters. And if they are smaller, what size are they so i know what size adapters to get...

JamesC, i know for a fact my car doesnt have a 3" going into the muffler..its a TBI...so its like 2 1/4 i think. But would my tailpipes still be 2 1/2???
And also, this might be a stupid question, but are the stock tailpipes welded to the muffler or are they just stuck on???

I think that my original system (LG4) had a 2 1/4, my first cat-back system had a 2 1/2, then a stock L69 system with a 2 3/4. All sported 2 1/2 inch tail pipes. By the way, I just measured the Hooker, which has the 3-inch inlet, and the tail pipes are 2 1/2--so I assume that's standard. The tail pipes are held in place with clamps, though I supposed they could be welded.

I'm 99% sure you can just cut them off and reweld them, that they're 2.5 inches.

The one thing im still not getting is whether the STOCK tailpipes are welded on or clamped on. So this is what i want to figure what is the correct info and procedure...
A. Are the stock tailpipes welded on, and if they are, should they be welded on to the hooker muffler, or should they just be clamped on?
B. Obviously being the simplier option, if the stock tailpipes are clamped on, they can just be clamped onto the hooker muffler.

Can you tell by looking at them, do they have clamps on them?
I personally would weld them to the new muffler either way, just looks cleaner in my opinion. I hate seeing a bunch of clamps on the exhaust, only clamp that is necessary is the inlet pipe so the muffler can be removed if you ever have to drop the tank for a fuel pump replacement. But thats just me though. It's personal preference, what ever you like, it's your car. On my own car, I am much like you, I like the stock tailpipes and not many cat backs have that so I just had a muffler shop custom make a pair of 3 inch tailpipes for mine that look just like the stockers, I welded them to the muffler. Hope this helps, Larry.

The pipes on my 92 RS were welded on. And I believe it was the stock system. Shouldn't be too hard to cut them off, or have new ones made and welded/clamped to the new setup.

i got a hooker muffler and my old tips did not fit however the muffler shop i took the car to fabed up some larger ones (for almost nothing) that were much the same style as the old ones. they actualy tuck up in better than stock and are completely invisable unless your all the way under the car.
