Flowmaster or glasspack
I have a V6 3.L in my 90 Firebird at the moument. I recently intsalled a Dynaflow muffler and I'm not totally happy with the sound it creates. I have now (2) 2 1/2" exhaust ports. and my question is...
Someone suggested that I take it off replace it with a Flowmaster muffler and have (1) 2" exhuast port, that would increase hp and I'd get a better sound out of it. <------ Would this truely work?
Now my 2nd question is how will a V6 sound with glasspacks?
I do plan to replace the V6 with a 305 but thats atleast another yr away. Any suggestions you guys can offer is greatly apprciated.

Wow. You guys are really concentrated on the topic at hand...
I've never heard flows on a v6 but I have heard plenty of glaspacks and they all sounds like crap to me. IMHO...

You should have 2 exhaust pipes coming from the muffler, this was the standard configuration you are more flow with two 2 1/2 outlets than one 2" outlet. I think some had two coming from one side and the others were on both sides. The only cars that had one were the 4 cyl ones, and them I'm not too sure about that. Keep the exhaust you have on the car and save the money, if it's 2 1/2 exhaust it will work fine with a V8 in the car.

the guy above me made no sense wat so ever but hes my two abes...
i have flow 40s and they sound awsome albeit on a 305. i have 2.5" true duals to 3' tips and i love the sound...
IMHO glasspacks sound like ***.. if you like that sound then save ur self $30 and just run no muffler at all

Well, from what it sounded like he was saying was when he had the new muffler put on, he now has 2 2 1/2 pipes, I may have been confused but was saying this was right, it's what he should have, one inlet, two outlets. He would be better off keeping the two 2 1/2 outlets instead of going with one 2" outlet

ok i get wat u are saying but you are mistaken... the only f-body to come with the dual outlet crossflow muffler to the best of my knowledge is the V8 i have never seen a v6 with dual pipes unless they are after market.....
now as for the HP increase.... you wil prolly lose some peak hp going to smaller outlet but gain in torque, that is if you dont go too small.... since the stock pip diameter is already 2.25" i think.... you should stay at that size or larger....
plus dual tips looks better

As far as I know (which isn't all that far to start with...
)...The only factorysingle outlet exhaust f-bodys were the iron dukers.
SLP is the only 'dual' out one side sytem that comes to mind offhand... obviously, not stock though.
Flowmaster on a v6 sounds pretty good.. if plan to idle around everywhere you drive.
Sound is a personal taste though... some people like nails on a chalkboard

To give my opion on the question, a flowmaster sounds better than a glasspack on a v6. Might get mistaken for a V8, least my buddies 95 v6 could hehe. As far as you gaining HP from doing this i doubt it. With the flowmaster you might see a small loss, with the glasspack you might see a small gain, talking maybe 1-2 HP. I have had a flowmaster on a V6 S10 and i loved the way it sounded, and i have heard V6 S10s with a glasspack that sounded like butt. I would do some searching for threads with sound clips, might help. Most will probably be on V8 cars but you should get the idea.

**Update**
I got my Flowmaster 80 series installed today. My cat had been gutted for awhile and I asked him to cut it out and place a straight pipe there. Well Its alot louder, sounds really awsome at idle. However I'm not to impressed with it at hwy speeds. I'm thinking on having the Cat reinstalled.
My wife says it sounds perfect... although she liked the Dynoflow too.
Any suggestions guys?
Also the guy charged me $160 bones to do all that. I figured thats a good deal.
Thanks in advance

Well just got the cat installed, Idle still sounds ok, although its somewhat less of a rumble. Very acceptabel tho.
And as far as hwy speeds, sounds great. So yeah Series 80 Flowmaster is a good muffler

a 305 is a big leap from a V6 lol.
And 305s can be peppy if you give them a good cam and port out the heads a bit.
