Hooker 2055 problem

I picked up a set of Hooker 2055s without the Y-pipe which apparently went to the crusher with the body.

I can't find a replacement y-pipe anywhere. Jegs, Summit or even Hooker.

Anybody got any ideas, or am I stuck?

Thanks in advance

MAC makes a Y-pipe for third gens and says that it makes 7-9 horses over stock, it's $170

try jet-hot coatings, if not any decent exhaust shop can make you one

What has been said on this Board in the past:

Call Holley directly. Apparently they will take a special order (pre-paid, of course), and the next time they make a run of the headers, they'll make an extra y-pipe for you. Expect to wait a couple of months.

Otherwise, take it to an exhaust shop (stay away from "muffler" shops), and hope they can fabricate something that comes close to the quality of the Hooker part.

Neither will fit without modification. Might as well modify a stock y-pipe or have one fabricated from scratch.

Thanks for the idea. I thought I was getting a pretty good deal, but it might turn into a pain. I'd much rather have the Hooker part, so I'll call the good folks at Holley. Sure hope they'll do the deal for me.

The 2055s are not in the Hooker catalog or on the website anymore, by the way, which has me a little spooked.

Yea, they're there. http://www.holley.com/types.asp?type=428
Looks like they are recategorized under 'street force' headers'. Dunno why, though. Mine have the tag on them that says Super Competition.

Good catch amigo. I thought I'd browsed all through the site, but I guess not. Oddly the listing on the website doesn't mention including a y-pipe, so I may not be out of the woods quite yet.

The set that I bought say Super Competition as well.

Thanks

Just installed my 2055s last night... after having them about 8 months. Everything seems to fit well... unlike on my other car, where they wouldn't fit at all. I have the tranny out, so what an opportunity to install the headers so it's easy to jack the back of the engine up. Glad I didn't have to unbolt any motor mounts. But I did have to take the pax side valve cover off and I was met with a rude surprise. Apparently my 91 Z28 5.7L doens't have the original L98 engine (heads at least). The casting numbers are 10110810.... probably early 90s TBI heads. I'll have to check the block numbers tonight. I have used Stage 8 header bolts in the past, but decided to try the Breslin Split-Lock bolts this time and man, what a time saver. These things are awesome. First time I've even used 'awesome' to describe bolts, but it is fitting.

Holley must be revamping their website still. I looked under "Street Force Emissions Compatible Header" about 10 days ago, the 2055's were not listed. However, searching for "2055HKR" brought up the description. That there are still a few bugs is evidenced by things such as "Please call Hoooker tech service at..."

Interesting they don't specifically mention the y-pipe, just that "All necessary hardware included for a complete installation". Hopefully their manufacturing quality has remained above their website quality.

Got the call from Hooker a few minutes ago. They're making the 2055 Y-pipe up for me as a custom order. Said it could take about a month, which I can live with.

$66.59 not including shipping, which he said should be about 10.00. A bargain in my book.

I'm sure it will be black for that money, but I'm just tickled that it's coming at all.

I figure that the local shop fab job just wouldn't compete with the research that went into the Hooker part.

By the way, what's the take on catalytic converters? My original part is in pretty good shape, so far. What is the value of the hi flow jobs.

Good show. I'd have to agree you're going to get a better finished product than you would at a local muffler shop.

Worth it.

Hopefully, they won't be charging $133 for shipping...

Honestly 66.59 and 10.00 shipping for the Y-pipe seems almost too good to be true. This is more what I might expect to pay for bolts and gaskets. I'll be sure to speak up if the actual cost winds up being different. UPS tried to deliver the headers yesterday, but I was out of town. I'll get them today.

I'm putting SFCs on the car now, and I spent a few minutes the other night looking at the stock manifolds and y-pipe. Really cheap, crappy looking stuff. I'm sure the headers will be a huge improvement.

By the way, putting these SFCs on by myself is a pretty sucky job. I'm guessing it must be about the third suckiest job that could be done on this car, behind a header install (probably second suckiest), and re-painting it (always first suckiest).

What do you guys think is the suckiest job you 've had to do on your 3rd gen? I'm just trying to figure out what to avoid.

Fuel pump is always sucky. Tranny removal and install was sucky, too (mainly trying to maneuver the tranny around and get it out from under the car backon the jack to put it in). A lift and a transmission jack would have been great.
Heck, I paid $60 for my header bolts.

Hey, quick question. What do you guys do with your oil dipstick after the header install? Mine just flops around without the exhaust stud to mount it to.

In case anyone was still holding their breath on this Y-pipe thing. UPS brought it by the house on New Years eve. It took right at 2 1/2 months to get the custom order from Hooker, but it finally came, and for a grand total of $76.59. A bargain.
