Anyone with experience with any of the Hedman longtubes? I'm looking for an 1 5/8" primary longtube. How are the hedmans compared to the hookers in terms of fit, duralbility and sealing?
i originally had a set of headman longtubes on my old '85, but kept on getting exhaust leaks at the collectors. evenatually i replpaced them with headman shorties, jet-hot coated. loved them. can't offer anything on the comparison question, but definitly get them coated.
i have them. fitment is OK. you will have to trim the drivers side arm mount a little...10mins worth of work. the number 3 primary will need a *small* dent to fit past the crossmember...starter has to come out to install. i've had 3 sets of these on 4 different cars. i like them alot. they perform well. the collector leak issues were fixed with a set of percy's "dead soft" aluminum gaskets.

I didn't have to dent anything to install mine.
I've had good luck with them, I've had a couple of sets on different combo's. They fit well but like mw66nova said you will have to trim the A-arm mount a little. I had to make a couple of other dents as well but once I got new poly motor mounts I didn't need them anymore...might want to consider new motor mounts too if yours are sagging.

I also didn't have to trim my car.
I've got their coated shorties on the car now and I'm very happy with them. I just wanted to know how the LT's fit. Sounds like I may pick up a set. How is the collector placement? Will a Mufflex Y come close to fitting?

Probably not, the collectors are tucked up between the frame rails.

yup i got the headman LT's too...worked out fine for me, for 130 bucks you can't go wrong. I did not have to trim anything, and the ball style collectors seem to squeeze pretty tight for a good seal. I've had them in and out a few times while putting my car together...
They are well worth it, and the hooker's aren't worth it IMO, way too expensive...

How do they seal to the head? Usually the cheaper headers with the thinner flanges don't like to seal. I would rather have the hookers with the thicker stell and flanges, but 1 3/4" is too big for my setup.

yup mine are ball style. maybe they changed them or something...
but about the flange, they seal good so far. The flange isn't thin and cheap looking. I mean i feel they left a gernerous amount of meat there, all you ever would need, I don't see why you would want it any thicker. But like I said, its a big bang for your buck header...
i just looked on jegs at them, and viewed the product for our cars and it shows the regular 3 bolt style flange too....i wonder why mine are ball type collectors...I ordered mine from summit, but that shouldn't of made a difference...wierd...oh well i'm not complaining..

ya know, i don't know...I tryed and looked at my reciepts and it didn't say part numbers of the products...i tryed and find them on the site, but they all are traditional 3 bolt style collectors....
i'm confused now, i wonder if i just got lucky or something...

Yeah, that's interesting. They're probably just trying to make more money selling matching collector flanges.
Hopefully they've fixed those minor clearance problems too.
