exhaust idea

i am planning on putting a mildly built 383 stroker in my car and was just thinking of ideas for the exhaust. What do you think of this

-hedman long tubes
-dual 3" to a flowmaster 50 series
-dual out, over the axle and dump right before the rear bumper
-all tucked up very nice

-sorry for the crappy paint illustration

That's gonna hurt ground clearance right there I bet. Run it over the axle then hit the mufflers.

um...how are you planning on getting the ds pipe to the ps? it's going to decrease your clearance there just as much as it would if you ran duals in the traditional spot, then when up and over the axle...and you can run a pipe over the axle on the ds...look at deadbird's setup.

search for deadbird on here in the exhaust forum....there are tons of threads with his pictures in them.

summit's headers are essentially flowtechs...they SUCK for performance parts...if your just going with something a little better than stock...OK. but if you want the best bang for your buck...hedman longtubes my friend.

6846o

do these fit with stock large style starter and stock engine mounts ?

ive been seeing ppl having problems with starters not clearing with the 2210 headers

it looks like 6846o are the way to go

thanks

the o is actualy a zerio 6846zero(0)

nope, no starter or motor mount clearance issues. the starter will have to be removed, the reinstalled for header installation...no biggie. also, you *may* have to do a small amount of trimming on the a-arm mount on the crossmember. not that big of a deal, nothing a handheld grinding wheel can't handle.

you would have to move the mufflers towards the front about 6-8" then you would have plenty of room to go up and over the axle.

i love the sound, can't beat the sound of dual exhuast with an h-pipe. for dimensions, look up summit p/n 633222, it's a summit brand muffler.

i like the setup but i heard the sound clip and its a bit too muffled for me . ill probably go with dual flowmaster 40 series. those new edelbrock mufflers look good, has anyone tried them?

u dont want the muffler that close to the engine. it causes power loss. the farther away the muffler the better.

There is a better way to do it than this. First check out ******* dual 2.5inch setup.

Now here is the real good one. This is Greezemonkey's setup.

They generally don't have 10 feet of pipe after the muffler.

ive got a quick question. i havent been around long enough, unfortunately, to know the answer. would a 2 1/2" dual setup with mufflers (2 obviously) be noticably louder than a 3" single with just 1 muffler??? or vise versa? (assuming both are dumped before rearend) or even a dual with a 2-in, 2-out muffler.?

reason i ask, im thinking of doing something like this. theres just no room!!!

(btw i have done searches for this and i dont mean to take over anyones thread thanks)

it will be louder, but also, it'll have a much cooler tone, esecially if you use some sort of crossover pipe (either an H or X pipe.)

no, mine is 2 1/2". it supports my dads 550hp z28...and it gives me the best ground clearance.
