what will sound better
85 bird 305 all stock but 80 series flowmaster. think it would sound better if i put a straight pipe where the cat is or put a cutout, and before or after the cat for cutout, thanks.
I'd run a cat just because your car would stink and might suffer from not having one. I run the 80 series right now on my 305 TPI GTA, and it has a nice rumble to it. Too quiet for me though...it's for sale btw $100

The sound w/o a cat will be basically the same, but a bit deeper.

No cat would make your 80 series a little louder, and a lot deeper (with mine atleast). If your tail pipes end anywhere close to the back bumper, you shouldn't smell anything.

Or maybe that's just the gearhead in me!!
If you're going to put a cutout on your car, do yourself a favor and put it before the cat. Best place possible.

I ran an open y pipe for two weeks. Never smelled the exhaust. Not even at stop lights.

yeah I've ran an open Y.. it's slightly more noticeable. Like I'd get a wiff of it maybe every 15 minutes. Nothing annoying or dangerous. Plus it sounds SICK. Before the cat as close to the Y as possible will get you the best power gains. You can also put it after the cat if you like, but it won't sound as good and you'll lose a hp or two.
You've got a pm btw
