header paint / coatings

Anyone have suggestions for a coating for headers? I'm cleaning up my Hooker Super Comps that were originally silver / nickel.

Anyone have experience or suggestions on what is the best method and product to use to try and restore them to original look?

Other then painting them with some high heat paint, best temp I could find was like 1200f I don't have any other ideas.

Thanks to all.

Use VHT Flameproof header paint. Put on a few good coats and when dry until they're flat black, heat them lightly with a mapp torch until the paint looks wet again and then let cool. Do this a couple times to cure the paint and it wont peel or flake. I don this on all of our dyno headers and they have lasted 5 years on the original paint.

Would a propane torch work as well as a map torch?

Yeah, just take a little longer. Heat them up until they look glossy, then let them cool. Once you get them on the car, if you see smoke shut it down and let them cool off.

The key to getting the paint to work is the metal MUST be clean!!. Soap and water won't cut it. Take your headers to get sandblasted, have them use a slightly harsher grain, which will leave the metal a bit coarse, like whats used on industrial equipment, will be better here. Don't use the stuff that leaves it glassy-smooth. Then follow the directions on the can, and don't cut corners.
I did this, and except for being dirty, my headers look like I just painted them, and the paint is over a year old now.
