long tubes or shorties
i have a dilemma... should i use long tubes or shorties. i'm thinking that shorties are the way to go because of their ease of installation, but long tubes, i'm told, make more power but they mainly have to be fabricated the whole way back. so which should i use? and how much hp is lost w/ using shorties? is there any fuel mileage differences? any and all imput would be appreciated.

With just a stock 5.0 TBI, the shorties will work just fine for you. I doubt there would be much (if any) gain with longtubes over shorties.

i'm planning to remove the stock 5.0 and replace it w/ a carberated 355. does that change things any as far as difference in power gains?

Long tubes are a bit more work but I really like mine. You'll need a custom Y pipe I believe so thats one thing to consider .

If its for a street car id go w/shorties. I got edelbrock tes on my Camaro and the crossover pipe is only like 4 inches off the ground. Long Tubes must be wicked close to the pavement if u use the cross over they give u.

Long tubes are better for performance but they come at a cost. They are harder to install, require a custom y-pipe, come too close to the ground (for my liking), have various interference problems (tranny, frame rails etc etc). For a street car they are not recomended. They are even harder to run if you want to lower your car.
