Alternative to welding???
Hi, I want to gut my cat and place it back. However, my cat is welded and I can cut it, but know jack about welding.
I saw some clamps at auto store that clamp the exhaust together, but I cant find them anymore. What would you recomend.???

Disconnect the exaust pipe from the cat, take a sharp chisel and punch the screen out of the back of the cat and fire up the motor!
Might want to do it outside though, them little black beads are going to go everywhere! Too easy!

You want me to cut it from behind the cat?? Than punch out the screen and fire up the car!! Just to be on the safe side???

You mean someone welded the exaust pipe up to the rear of the cat? Should be bolted! Anyway, yeah punch the screen and dig it out with a set of pliers and fire it up. The exaust will blow the beads out. That's what I did to mine. If you have to cut the pipe, cut it far enough back that you can slip a 2 1/2 inside diameter piece about 6in. long over the pipe and slide it back to connect the two and then clamp them.

I think a better solution would be to gut the cat and then run a pipe through the cat so there wouldn't be a disruption in the exhaust flow.once you've got the pipe in get some reducers or something to slide the pipe back together at both ends then just clamp them down with exhaust clamps.

The newer cats are the monolith style ceramic bricks. Harder to gut then the old restrictive bead style cats.

I have the new highflow cat. I have hesitation problem and replaced everything. Still same problem. I did notice that my car has a different tone to it. Before I can hear the exhaust and the pipey noise like it was pretty open. Now I can hear the exhaust but no more pipey noise, so I am suspecting my cat.
The guys that put my cat in just welded it and did not bother with bolts. So I am going to have to sawzall the exhaust right before the weld so that way I can fit in a new one when emissions come around!
How do you use those little extenders an such. Do they slip over the pipe and than clamp down???
I am not sure how they work??

get electric cut outs and never worry about it again. open the cut outs when you want pure power and noise, then close them back up so jonny law does act like an idiot. All from the comfort of your drivers seat!
