Entire different way to dual exhaust.

Ok guys,

I have been thinking a lot about how I am going to to true dual exhaust because my car has stock size tires on it and I really don't want to spend the money for oval tubing.

Now the idea that my brother came up with would be get some round mufflers that go directly behind the headers and then just run the usual tubing back to dump before the rear tires. Do you think this could work? I am going to have to check the clearance but it seems like a better idea than trying to tuck two full size mufflers up under the rear seats and still have ground clearance.

lemme know!!!

Thats the way my old setup was when i first got my car and it wasnt really too bad for ground clearance, once in a while it would drag on a speedbump but not too bad. That was with 2.25" pipe and bottles which were about 3" diameter.

Im going to try a 2.5" system the same way this year because the cops dont like my straight pipes that are on there at the moment

Im going to try and tuck it up in there a bit but theirs not much of a place it can go!

I asked the same question a couple days back. I have an 89 bird and I want to do the same exact exhaust. People have said there is absolutely no room, and I have heard there is room from people who have done it. Im getting pics of somebodys exhaust soon and ill post them if I can.

It has Hooker shorties (non smog legal) and the trans x-member is notched so the pipes can run a straight line to the rear w/o causing a ground cleaance problem.
It's not much different than the way thirdgenrs has his routed.

Looks like it is about time to fix that pinion seal.

Here in Ga you can't dump in front of the axle. You have to go all the way back or out the side. On a truck it only has to go to the end of the cab.

Got a ticket when I had my 77 bird for this.

Hey thirdgens, Do you have a problem with too much heat on the starter? It looks a little close

I tried the yes sir thing at first. He said he pulled me over for not stopping at a stop sign. This was on Christmas eve a few years ago. We had just left my fathers house with two car loads of gifts. The wife went home before me and two of our boys. When I STOPPED at the sign some gifts fell ofer in the back seat. I put the car in park and restacked them before pulling off. So I knew I stopped. He had a bad attitude.

That's exactly how mine is, with the stock tires in the front i had just under 5" of ground clearance with all stock springs (At the collectors).

It should be off the jack stands tonight, i'll double check that tho.
