LT1 starter

I recently installed Hooker 2210 headers on my T/A. I used a mini-starter that i was told by the kid at autozone was an LT1 starter. it bolts up, wires up, and cranks. but i keep hearing odd grinding noises and noises like it's binding up under there..... maybe i need to shim it? Has anybody else had this problem? I'm running a scat SFI flexplate, 168 tooth. any thoughts?

Did you check the clearance (i.e. shim)?

P.S. What's up?

Every stock LT1 I've ever seen has a 153 tooth flexplate/flywheel. So I would doubt it's a LT1 piece. Full size trucks on the other hand use 168 tooth flexplates and have mini-starters. Either way it sounds like it may need to be shimmed.

gotcha. it's the bigger one, i know that for a fact. and this particular one is actually for a 400, (it's weighted) so being that a 400 is a truck motor..... I'll try some shims. I'll send you a PM mike... so much has happened since i got home from the army. My parents are moving to florida, and i take the first load down tonight. we'll talk then nice to see you're still around.
