How do you know if its stock?
Are there any designations on a stock exhaust to tell that it is in fact stock? I bought my camaro about a year ago and I can't find any pictures of what a stock exhaust system should look like for my car (1991 305 TBI RS). I don't know homw much the guy who owned it before me modified it. As far as I know they came with a single pipe into the muffler with two outlets, but I can't tell if the one I have is aftermarket. I don't want to go out and buy a new muffler just to find out the sound isn't much better. Obviously a muffler with no designations (as far as I can tell) probobly won'y hold a candle to a magnaflow or a flowmaster but I want to know how to tell if the current setup is stock. (I currently have 3in inlet, 2 2.5in outlets).
15 year old car, I don't think its has the original stock system. But I would go with the Catback 3" Ip into a whatever muffler you want with the twin 2.5 exhaust pipes.

Thanks. In reality though I think it might be the original, the people who had the car before me took care of the visual aspects of the car quite well and I bought it with 83k miles, so I don't think they would have had the exhaust changed. Thanks though, I will look into that.

i dont think the stock muffler was a 3" inlet muffler. Can you take a picture? Flowmasters (3" in, dual 2.5" out) often times dont have markings (especially older ones), but are quite distinctive in shape.
its stock judging by the sizes, the only way to tell the muffler is to look at the engraving on the top of it which would require removing it. If it sounds good to you then its good for your car if not change to the magnaflow or edelbrock, FLOWMASTER IS NOT MUCH BETTER THAN STOCK.

flowmaster isnt that bad.. especially the 3inch in, dual 3inch outs.. thats the only way to go. i didnt see much difference over the flowmaster and a chambered tube powerstick so far. maybe slight advantage powerstick
anyway stock exhausts usually have the crinkle bend tubing and is more like 2.5inches. and the stock system on my L98 was VERY quiet. little rumble on idle but not even CLOSE to the same sound as the flowmaster or the powerstick

The stock muffler is large. Much bigger than a Flowmaster or Hooker. So if it's big, it's most likely stock.

Sorry it has taken so long to post a reply, I had finals all week. I have never posted a pic before so I hope this works. The picture of the muffler doesnt really look as large as it seems in real life, it seams alot larger underneath the car. I didnt have tim to put it on stands so its the best I can do. I have seen relatively stock camaros w/the same muffler so hopefully someone can tell if its stock.

Geez, I cannot really tell. You should pm IROCZTWENTYGR8 and refer him to this thread. His car has the stock muffler, he will most likely be able to tell you. I'd lean towards it not being stock. Looks too small.

Not stock.
The stock system had a muffler with rolled beads around the edges; that one isn't made that way.
The stock system was all welded where the pipes meet the muffler; that has U-bolts. The factory used no U-bolts back there.

Hmmmm, well, I think I am just going to replace it, its looking kind of ratty and in its current position its bent, so I'll just buy a new one and put tips on it. Otherwise I would just be getting it straightened, but I may as well go all the way when I take it to the shop. Thanks for everyones help.

It's definetly OLD whatever it is, but probably not stock.
I'd suggest just buying a new catback system.

Not stock. Looks like some kind of generic OEM replacement. Stock mufflers have rolled edges and a "GM" then the part number on the bottom. The stock tailpipes are also not clamped.

When you buy the new system and remove that one, look on the muffler for a name or part number and let us know.

I got the exhaust removed today, and put on my new hooker catback, it sounds so nice now, really deep. They removed the old exhaust, it didnt have a single form of the identification, the guy who removed it said it might have been a old magnaflow, I'm glad I switched, the inside was rusting out, and the new one looks great too, alot more agressive.
