gas tank/ exhuast

do i have to remove the exhuast from my 89 rs to remove gas tank. i know i have to drop the rear axle. how long should this job take me. i expect it to be almost an all day project. local shop wanted 260 bucks to do it, i will do it myself like i do eveything else. i just wanted a price becuase i know what a PITA its going to be. i paid 90 bucks for a southern tank. i have a southern car but somebody messed up the end of the fill neck, its oval shaped. gas cap fits but doesnt seal so i cant put more than 10-15 bucks in at a time or it will leak quite badly. so do i have to pull the exhuast?

hey there

i just did my tank.. so a bit of advice the more room you can get the better...i left my exhaust on and it was a pain moving it around trying to get the tank in and out, so if you can remove it also get the a$$ end up as high as possible. i should of gone up higher but didn't know any better..

i didn't remove mine i just unbolted the rear hanger and lowered it down and the tank slide out on top of the muffler. no problem. make sure you lower the exhaust as far as you can though otherwise you'll create alot of problems for yourself.

You dont have to completely drop the rear axle, you can just drop the panhard bars and jack the car up high enough to get the exhaust as vertical as possible. That is the easiest way I have found to do it...
