i found an L69 Y pipe

i found a L69 Y pipe off of a 84 z28 305 HO. its at camaro specialities, he wants 125 bucks does that seem like a good price. it is in decent condition but it is used and does have that rusty y pipe look. no holes, its still quite solid. i have a 1989 RS 305 and im not happy with the exhuast, at all. 2-1/4" is crap. im also thinking of using a flowmaster american thunder cat back from summit. i have all other components(except catback) from the 84 exhuast including cat and manifolds. so my exhuast system would be as follows, L69 manifolds, L69 Y pipe, L69 cat, and a flowmaster catback. the total cost would be about 450 bucks. what do you guys think? the total system would be less than a good set of headers, would probably breath really nice and should fit the car perfectly. no modifications nessary.

I did exactly the same thing with my LG4 (too bad you're not close as I still have the entire set-up to include a Catco high-flow cat and a Vortex Cherry Bomb muffler). Anyway, they're not headers, that's true, but the system will awaken that old 305.

By the way, you'll probably need a spacer (TPI cars had them while L69's had an EFE valve) to get the pass side Y to fit the manifold.

how do i make use of it if it has no flange? is there a way to fix it? 10 bucks sound like a great deal. how much would the shipping cost to east aurora ny? i think 125 bucks is quite a bit of money for a use Y pipe. can i still get it new?

1984 L69 HO exhaust replacement

OK...I hope this is simple. My current '84 TA, L69, manual trans. "G" VIN code, exhaust system is original, but 22 years old and needs total replacement from and including the Y tube to the exhaust tips...cost not a primary concern (would like to avoid gold plated). Can anyone recommend a system and/or kit that includes Y tube, catconvert, and all the rest?...and also I would like a little more aggressive sound than stock.

I assume it's best to look for mandrel bent tubs and stainless (I don't want plain mild steel).

Thanks...

Too bad I just junked a Dual Cat LB9 Exhaust setup about 1 month ago. Got $35.00 for it from a local yard.

i wouldn't bother replacing a factory y-pipe when aftermarket headers and y-pipe aren't much more money when factoring in welding up cut up pieces at an exhaust shop etc.

The following will fit your requirements: Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR).
