how do cut outs work???
how do cut outs work???
ok i have searched over and over again and all i find is threads on what cut outs to get but i still dont understand what a cut out is and how it works? is it just a hole in the exhaust that lets more exhaust out of the pipe, also how does an electric cut out differ from a cut out that you have to get under the car to "plug" and "unplug" so any help is great thanks guys

a cut out is a "Y" in your exhaust system. idealy it is placed just after your "y"pipe before your cat. the "y" faces backwards. when closed it does NOTHING, it just routes the exhaust out the back like it was not even there. when it is open it dumps the exhaust out right behind the front wheels, before the cats, before the mufflers.
depending on how good of an exhaust system you have you may or may not see any HP gains from this. the main thing is that you will have LOUD exhaust. it is mostly an intimidation thing. some punk is reving at you at a light, you flip the switch and slam the gas "VROOOOM" and he is put in his place.
electric versus manual:
an electric cutout has an electricity oporated celenoid that opens up the dump flap, and closes it again. a manual cutout is done by you physically. you crawl under the car and remove the 3 wingnuts and pull the block off flap off the car. and then put it back on later. i would go with an electric. back in the day they also had cable oporated and vaccume oporated ones. i don't know if you can still get those kinds though.

there is some good eletric (12V) flaps to bolt to the 3 bolt flange on your cut out, EXTRA LOUD WITH A FLIP OF A SWITCH lol
