My dyno results are in!
So I just dynoed the car today and I thought I would post up the real world results! I have an all stock L69. I went from a stock exhaust to this:
Hooker 2055's and y-pipe (Jet Hot coated)
Catco (9118) 3 inch High Flow Cat
Dynomax I-pipe and over-the-axle pipe
3-inch Classic Chambered Exhaust Chambered Muffler
Dump after muffler
Stock dyno:
187 HP
220 FT/LB TQ
Full exhaust dyno:
207 HP
??? FT/LB TQ
The guy told me his hook-up thing was broke, so we couldn't record the torque. He said when I get my new muffler on, he will give me another pull!
So, thats 20 HP gain on a full exhaust. Nothing else has been touched on the car, mod wise. Not bad I guess. Hope this helps some people!

Add in some more fuel, and check the timing, and I bet you pick up another 5-8hp.
You dont happen to have the graphs do you? I wouldnt mind seeing where else you picked up more power.

Thats awesome! I totally believe it. I went from a stock 94mph trap to trapping 96mph with just the 2055's and Y pipe. That's still with the stock catback pipeing.

Niiiiice.....
We'll have to set up a race at Firebird or Speedway sometime. My Lb9 put down 187whp stock last April and I have added headers since then. So hp should be close. What rpm did you hit 207 at? That sucks that torque wasn't read correctly. But what do you think it will hit? 240?

All right, heres the graph:

And I went out to the track today with my car club and got to see what she can do! It was my first time ever. I was way nervous! I ran a 15.093 on my first pass, and then I ran a 15.092 on my second. Consistency, lol. My reaction times were crap and so were my 60 foots. Lol oh well! I am hooked! I want to go do it again so bad! Heres the time slips for those of you who always want proof!

And for those of you who want to know what I was running against in my first run, it was an LS1 auto. Stock I think. Maybe a lid. Hope this helps even more!

wow, great times and sweet looking ride. hopefully this thread will convince my buddy to sell the wife and buy some 2055's for his LG4.

No flames, but I bet it went only to 198ish RWHP in as that hump is not normal and should be considered as part of the run.

If you don't mind me asking How much did the 2055's cost ya? I'm downloading the hooker catalog now, I wasn't able to find them in a search.

That little hump might have been the converter clutch "FORCE LOCKING" due to the MPH term being met for Forced Lock criteria. In other words the torque converter clutch will lock no matter how much throttle you are giving it at a certain MPH stored in the ECM.

True but I cant see it locking and then unlocking in like 300 rpms later, but I will agree its a converter glitch. It is safe to say that the 207 figure had a fudge factor in there. I would say your car made right under 200 HP.

Mine were $640 from Jet-Hot. But that was with the group purchase. Thats with AIR and the y-pipe all coated. If you want them coated, just call Jet-Hot and tell them you want to order some 2055's coated. They will give you a shipped qoute. Good luck!

I ordered directly from them. They do all the work, like get the headers from hooker, coat em and ship em. You just sit back and pay them.
Call 1-800-432-3379
Thats the number for Jet-Hot. And just tell them you want to order some coated 2055's. They will do the rest! And ask all the questions you want, they answered all of mine, no sweat. Good luck!

Doc, thank you for actually posting this before and after data. We need to make sure we are making data based decisions and suggestions to others on here. Data like this validates the information given out on this site and keeps us creditable. Thanks for being a team player. And also thanks for posting an early thirdgen Z that is nice and runs good, not the typical ragged out piece of junk like most early thirdgens have become.

No problem! I am just happy that I can contribute to this awesome site. I get a lot of help here, so it feels good to give back. And thanks for the compliment! I try really hard to keep her nice and running good, so it feels good getting compliments when I know there are way cooler looking thirdgens.

Thirdgens (as with any car) are always open to interpretation. Everyone mods theirs different. I wouldn't say there are way cooler ones out there than yours. Some may have spent more money and have more mods but that doesnt make them inherently cooler. Just make sure your car is what you want it to be, thats all that matters.

Couldn't you could just work backwards to figure out torque if you know what gears are in the car? Assuming 3.23's and that it was dyno'd in 3rd on a 26" tall tire:
HP=TORQUE * RPM / 5252, so you can say that:
HP/RPM*5252 = Torque
75mph = 3130 rpm, probably more like 3400 rpm accounting for converter slip. It looks like it made roughly 175 horsepower at 3400 rpm, so:
175/3400*5252 = 270 ft lbs torque @ 3400 rpm
I am not sure what your gearing or tire size is but I think you could figure it all out if you do the math since horsepower is a measurement of torque.

Fast355, not meaning to question you, but I thought only the 'stick shifted L69 cars came with 3.73s, and the automatic equipped cars came with 3.42s?

This car must have looked great! I kind of kick my self for that. Oh well, won't make that mistake again! I am so happy these cars are so cheap right now. Well if you find the right people they are, hehe. I can get as many as I can right now, then have a nice variety of thirdgens, woot! Senior Member

I know i only have an lg4 but I beleive hes dyno is correct, it was a light and day difference when I added headers, msd cap rotor and wires, and thats with a 2.5 catback open air tube.
I deffinatly think I had a 15 sec car before the car blew up
Also you can improve ur times with some tricks like
removing your rear seats and maybe your passanger seat
when was your last tune up and oilchange? that comes into consideration two as well as airfilter. etc etc

Or the opposite: If my backpack for school holds 50lbs of books and such, it's in the car going down the track. If Big Bird is always riding shotgun on the way to work, guess what? He's riding shotgun down the track. With his big yellow head poking out the t-top hole on his side.
Ok,ok, both were exaggerations. But, I really am run what you brung. If I want to toy with someone on the street, I won't tell him to let me have 5 minutes so I can rip out my interior. I like to know what my car does 24/7.

). Were you driving a third gen? Because so far I have seen 2 on my way to school. A yellow RS and a white 91-92 RS. I actually was at a light side by side with the yellow one, but the guy never looked over so I could wave. Guess he wasn't into our cars as much as I am. I get excited when I see other thirdgens. Especially when I am right next to one in mine. Oh well! Banned

Not that that won’t help, but he’s got traction out of the hole…
Once again, not that these things aren’t good, but he’s got traction on the launch he said.
A 2800-3200 RPM stall TC and some slicks would be the ticket for a much better 60’ time. MW66 is running something like a 4000 stall, that’s the reason he’s cutting such good short times.

great numbers Doc!
how do u like that classic chambered tube muffler? i love mine. sounds very mean
as far as 60 foots go, how are u launching the car? from idle and mashin it on green? try foot stallin it up some. else get a converter. that will lower ur times.

we gotta get a good video of my car up, on that run you can actually watch the suspension bang the tires and unload them. i didn't do a good burnout before that run, i eneded up with a 1.7x 60' on that pass, but managed a 1.67 later on in the evening, dropping .3 off my et by the end of the night. we just found that i still didn't have 100% WOT and we're working on fixing that, but the small amount i was able to fix has already made a night and day difference...searching for 3mph and another .3 drop in et. we're putting in some trick springs after the 1st of the year.

As for 60 foots, I am pretty sure I didn't spin. I didn't hear a squeal, but that doesn't mean anything. All I did for the launches was from the brake to the go pedal. I was gonna go for a pass where I stall it up a little, but she over heated in the staging lanes.
Tell me that isn't embarrassing... Thread
