2055's w/ Auto Tranny

Hey my question is pretty simple I think just can't find the answer anywhere. I have a 350 / t5 combo with 2055 hookers. I am wanting to change my tranny to an automatic tranny and was wondering if there was any clearance issues with those headers and various automatic tranny's.

Thanks guys

Oops meant 2460's.

Thanks

Bill

No problem with a TH700R-4.

Is that a pretty good tranny? Or would you recommend something else? I am looking for something that i can use street/strip.

Thanks

Its the stock automatic tranny that came with these cars, its a pretty decent tranny. If your gonna be taking it to the strip, then I would say build it up with a shift kit, and any other things to beef it up. And you also said street, so this is also a good tranny because of the overdrive. Good luck! I'm sure someone else will chime in with more info.

Agreed (although not offered until 1983, and not the "standard" auto until 1984).

Street/strip is how mine is used. It's been freshened up with good stuff, upgraded with shift kit and higher stall converter.

Sweet thanks for the info. I will start hunting the yards for a good tranny. Hey do you all know what the difference is with the 2460's and the 2055's headers?

Thanks

Bill

Make sure in looking for a 700R4 that it's the V8 version. Also if you can get one from an '88 or later is a plus as many of the revisions are done(but then you'll be having it rebuilt). It's the only aotmatic for Z28s from '83 up.You could still get the TH200C in the Sport Coupe and Berlinetta in '83.

On the headers you could do a search for the differences or go to Summit's( http://www.summitracing.com )website to compare them.i belive it comes down to one coming with the y-pipe and one doesn't.

The pictures to the 2460's and 2055's are the same.

2460's are 16 guage with 3 bolt flange and no y-pipe or tune

2055's are 18 guage with standard flange and comes with tuned y-pipe.

I prefer the 2460's then buy the y-pipe HOK-16767HKR but I have a new feel on this y-pipe. I am buying full 3" header back exhaust.....this y-pipe outlet is only 2.5" then it would go to my 3" cat then to my 3" exhaust out 2.5" tips. I dont think I want a y-pipe that is 2.5 out....I might look into a mufflex y-pipe.

I just e-mailed mufflex asking about a 3" y-pipe that will fit the 2460's

They have one for fitment on the Long Tubes. But since I am lowering my car I dont want to bump my exhaust....thats the reason I want shorties.

I see you actually have 2460's. Take me out of the voting, then.

2055s are emissions legal headers, meaning they have those stupid little lines that come off each pipe for the smog pump. if you dont have those little lines then dont buy those headers because if you cut them down and plug the holes they will look ugly.
http://holley.com/2055-1HKR.asp see those little lines on the headers. be VERY carefull when buying parts online because online pics do not always represent the product being purchased.

If you don't need the A.I.R. lines on the 2055's, cut them off, weld them shut, and grind them smooth.

"Ugly" to me is spending a bunch of money on a custom-made, non-mandrel-bent y-pipe; or paying $200 for a mandrel-bent y-pipe that you need to replace half of for another $200.

2055's are plenty "pretty" in that respect.

Sucks they don't make a ypipe. I have the hooker one that is I guess 2.5 inches. Oh well it runs great for my application.
