"Thermal" refers to the insulating effect of the coating, while "ceramic" indicates the type of coating.
To the best of my knowledge, there isn't any difference, although there are a lot of different outfits that do ceramic thermal coating.
Although, it is possible some scam artist out there is referring to chrome plating or high-temp paint as "thermal" because it doesn't burn off like the black shipping paint that comes on non-coated headers. I hope not, though. Do you have a link or reference to the use of "thermal" with regard to coating?

Ceramic is a thermal TYPE of coating.
thermal could also be like what I use to do pistons/valves etc. which is a thermal barrier coating also.
Just termanology diff. people use.

There are actually two questions there:
1. Are Hedman Elite hedders worth buying?
2. Is it worth it to get them with ceramic thermal coating?
The answer to #1 depends upon which hedders you're talking about, and what you need in headers, which is tied to what you're going to do with the car.
The answer to #2 is almost always "yes", although the cost/benefits decision is really an individual thing. The coating does help keep heat in the exhaust gases which improves performance slightly and keeps underhood temps down some, while helping the headers to last longer. Whether the substantial extra cost is worth that is really your decision.

Re: Difference between Thermal and Ceramic headers?
ok actually instead of starting another new thread ill just hijack this old one. No where can i find solid opinions for or against the hedman elite shorties #68478. My biggest dilema i'm having is whether to go elite or #68470 from jet-hot. only a cpl bux more for jet-hot, but it'll take awhile to get them and from what I can tell the elite headers are just a precoated version of the 68470's but thicker metal. Please someone save me from this headache. thanx
Re: Difference between Thermal and Ceramic headers?
Before you buy those Hedman's you might want to check with Dyno Don about a set of his headers. He may be a little behind because of demand but they are an awesome set of headers.

Re: Difference between Thermal and Ceramic headers?
too pricey for my application. went with headman elits and matching y pipe. While i agree they may be better headers its a cpl hundered i personally can't afford.
Thanks for the input and Dyno Don you have a great product o hard feelings.
