exhaust cut-outs
well, exhaust cut out (singular) for my setup. where would be the best location for a summit exhaust cut-out? right now i have stock manifolds, no cat, and a single flowmaster out back. i want to put black jack headers on the car soon. should the cutout go where my cat used to be, or is there a better setup?

Thats a little too loud for my taste right there. I have had mine right before the over axle pipe and it sounds better there.

Cutouts are meant to be loud, they are also there cuz u are running mufflers and are meant to be only temprarily loud. I was thinking of putting mine right after the collectors, but that would be a terrible place for the exhaust gas to vent, prolly cat area is the simplest place for it. Are you gettin the one with the wingnuts? If you pay a little more, i beleive jegs has one with a cable, and even an electric one.

well, the car is loud now, im just gonna do it for a little less backpressure at the track or something. I'll probably just go with the summit wing nut cutout cuz im cheap. Because ill have to access it i guess ill make use of that cat cave under the passenger side. should be easy access when i wanna get to it. thanks guys.

Man, Id strongly recomend against the dynomax blackjacks,I bought a pair from summit and went to put them on and realized the flanges on one of the headers was absolutely messed up.They were big ridges in the flanges, so i had to grind them down to fit properly.Im hoping they seal properly,i havent started my new 350 yet so well see.just thought id throw that out there.good luck man

mine in placed right under the rear passenger seat. I also have it equipped with a McCord Power Plate, so by the flip of the switch....it sounds like a nascar or something. I love it.

i've got hooker super comp headers with a 3" collector into a pair of collector reducers to 2 1/2" summit cutouts, about 6 inches of pipe into a pair of flowmaster 40 series and thats it. its really loud but sounds sooooo good. the mufflers stop right under about where the back of the front seats would be. havent opened the cutouts yet but have started the car when exhaust wasnt on yet and its just a sound to die for. The only bad thing is that i have only about 4 inches of ground clearance from the exit flange of the cutout and is not speedbump or curb friendly. it was kinda hard to position the cutouts for maximum clearance so i just had them touching the frame and put some rubber from the old exhaust hangers pinched in between them so they dont rattle from hitting the frame. I love the sound and havent gotten pulled over yet and have been around several police cars with it so far and i drive it to work at 4 AM and no complaints(yet)
first off you need to look at your rpms. from what i understan about backpressure, it might not help your car. the higher rpm your engine is capable of producing, the closer youcan put it to your manifold. (depending on the size piping you have). i used to have a cut-out with no cat and 2in pipes, and i put it where the cat used to be, thinking it would give me the hp advertised. what i didnt know is my engine didnt put out high enough rpm for the distance from the manifold and my size pipes; so my powercurve was shifted out of my rpm range, and it actually slowed me down. my advice is to not go with a cut-out and just get a bad*** exhaust system.
