help, flowmaster 40 or 80 series?

i'm going to get a catback exhaust put on my 1986 iroc tomorrow morning. which is a better sounding muffler, the 40 or 80 series? i'm looking for a somewhat loud exhaust, but i don't want it to give me a headache while i drive around. if you have a 40 or 80 series, please let me know the pro's and con's. thanks.

I went with a 80 and its quite at highway speeds and loud went you get on it!!

But I'm also running headers with a 3" y-pipe, no cat, 3" pipe back to the 80 series & then it splits in to, two 2 1/2" tail pipes.

Is it a custom system with muffler of your choice or are you asking which system to get?

i got 3" pipe with the 80 series flowmaster (only thing in stock to fit my iroc) sounds good so far. have only drove it 7 miles since the repair. i didn't think $225 plus tax for the cat back setup with flowmaster exhaust, installed, was too bad. looking forward to this spring/summer.

80 series

i had the 80 series cat back 3inch and it had an amazing sound, very deep, wasent loud when cruising, awsome when i was in underground parking lots, got compliments all the time, people thought i had a 350, i had a 305 tbi, i had my system hooked up to hedman shorties w/ y-pipe and no cat and i loved it, when ever i pulled into anywhere even car shows i turned heads, great sound not the greatest for performance, if u ask me great bang for ur buck the only negative comment i have is the pipe bend over the axle is tight over bad bumps the pipe would hit the floor or knock on the diff, not anoying one bit maybe u wont have this problem my exhaust hangers were broken, sorry no sound clip sold the car to buy an 85 but if u ask me i will install the egxact same exhaust the second time around ...

i find that hedman and flowmaster are the best in between for sound, quality and performance

If you're going with the 80 Series go with the 43083 3" in, 2 1/2" out. It's the smaller louder 80 Series. If you don't care about dual tips, go with the 40 Series. They are the loudest and deepest Flowmaster muffler.

I know you already got your setup, but I will be doing a "custom" 40 series setup in stock location with tailpipes on both sides. Kind of like the new Magnaflow system with a striaght through muffler as opposed to a crossflow. Hopefully if the weather holds up here in Chicago I'll get it done this Sun.
