Maximum ground clearance with 2210's and a T56!
Hi everyone,
I've got some pictures of my latest project, a new exhaust system for the Trans Am that doesn't sacrifice ground clearance with the Hooker long tube header.
The Y-pipe that I've fabricated is going out this week for thermal barrier coating, and that picture will be later this week. In the mean time, you can see more pictures at http://www.ws6transam.org/Gallery under the random stuff album.

I've designed my Y-pipe specifically for the Long Tube header, the T56 transmission, the thirdgen body, and Skulte's new longtube crossmember. It also tucks up tight enough to allow for use of the Unbalanced Engineering decoupled torque arm design, which you can see part of the crossmember in the above picture. It's better than factory clearance, except at the collector of the headers themselves. I can't do much about that!

...no I'm not making any extra Y-pipes for sale. There's 12 hours and $140 in materials in there!

Looks real good under there! I have a Flowmaster merge sitting here too but I couldn't use it because of the decoupled torque arm crossmember and driveshaft loop that got in the way. It tightened things up and forced me into fabricating my own merge. However the Flowmaster merge is indeed a nice piece, I kind of wish I could have used it. Now I need to return it or sell it to someone on thirdgen.org!

I know what you mean..I still have to build a new loop to go with the crossmember for my car as well. Wouldn't be so bad if there was more room under there!
I have around 4hrs into my y, but I was able to use the already made FM merge, thankfully.

Looks very nice ws6, I bought one off someone and me and my brother just got done cutting and welding it up to fit. Took a solid 4 hours but it turned out pretty good.

There you go, that'll work. My Y-pipe is at www.zoofactorycoatings.com right now getting double ceramic coated.

I got the Y-pipe back from http://www.Zoofactorycoatings.com this week!

You can see more pictures of it here: http://www.ws6transam.org/Gallery

Here's the installation pictures that show the Y-pipe in relationship to the rest of the car's underside. No it's not a Chip Foose clean underside, but I've never gone for trophies that rely upon mirrors of the chassis... Forgive me, but it's a Michigan car with Ziebart rustproofing from the early eighties.

Y-pipe merge collector in relationship to the crossmembers.

Here you can see the crossmembers and in the shadows, you might be able to see the new Moser 12-bolt axle assembly.

Closeup of how the exhaust merge collector clears the driveshaft loop. You can also see the end of the decoupled torque arm and the white Chromoly driveshaft with spicer 1350 series U-joints.

Overall underside of the Y-pipe and its relationship with the decoupled torque arm crossmember.

very nice design there. Kinda looks like the one I made a last year for my setup. How do you like the coating on the ypipe? I have never heard of that company before and I am looking for a place tohave my longtubes coated.
