Y pipe cut outs???

is there enough room to weld in some electric exhaust cutouts in the y pipe?

ive got a set of 2.5" electric cutouts i saved off another car, Ive been thinking about this but dont know how much room there is to do it. has anyone else done this or thought about it?

I drew out what i was talking about, sorry if it looks bad

even if they were full size headers i dont think there would be room...
and putting one right after the y-pipe would pretty much do the exact same thing...

I wouldnt recommend doing it the way you showed, it will vent the fumes under your hood, and its bad for your car sucking it back in, and bad for you breathing it. A better place to do it is just before the catalytic converter. But again you run into clearance issues. Best would be to point it inwards under the car which would cause exhuast probs, but it would also be possible to point it outward with some clearance probs.

My first attempt at cutouts lead me to destroy a Hedman y-pipe that came with my hedders. (that was trying to install one just under each collector. Then I got a new y-pipe and just put one right before my y-pipe entered my cat. They are all right....its gonna do the same thing. Now I just reach under the car, undo three wing nuts, and I'm open. I think we have all tried this collector excursion on our third gens..and it seems we all end up doing the same thing.

As far as having clearance problems in that spot...there are none. My car is at stock ride height and the dump doesn't sit any lower than the cat does. It is facing out towards the lower passenger ground effect. I wouldn't face it in towards floor boards for one reason, who wants to reach under a hot exhaust pipe to undo three wing nuts. Thats just a 3rd degree burn waiting to happen
