Installed hi flo cat now smog numbers are high,HELP!

Hello you guys, I wanted to ask if any of you in Cali have installed a hi flo cat have your numbers go up on the smog check, I wanted to know if the main cause was this, before I was running straight pipe, I also think that my o2 sensor might be going bad too, please help, I want to keep my Iroc on the road smog legal. I have an 88 Iroc w/ 78k original miles with a magnaflow hi flo cat ending in flowmasters with 3 in tips. PLEASE HELP!

Is the O2 sensor the original part? If so, it's probably on its way out.

Were the checks of which you speak immediately before and after the cat replacement? If not, is there any reason to suspect the cat?

Change the O2 sensor. Assuming your readings increase are fuel mixture related.

thanks for your response, I thought the o2 was the problem, the car was well maintined before so that means most parts are original, also I forgot to mention I have an MSD ignition, coil, dist, wires. could this affect it too.
thanks

It would be helpful if you could post the readings you got during the tests, and everything known that changed between the tests. When the tests were run would also be helpful.

thanks, but I now know the culprit, I checked my oil today, something told me that something was wrong, I checked it and the oil was way below normal, almost dry, it had about 2 quarts in it but very black and thick, I refilled it today and will flush it again on Sunday, is there any problems from me running the car 1 day like that, the owner before me had it parked in the garage, so far I checked and everything is fine, idle is at 800 rpm. I want to know of anything that might have gotten damaged, You Iroc gurus can help with his question. I will check on it tomorrow. any engine flush you guys recommend. I can beleive that I trusted the owner who sold it to me. what an idiot I am. that is what happens when you trust a friend, I guess. any help will be appreciated.

Where in California are you?
There is no way I know of knowing if you did any damage without tearing down the engine and inspecting the bearings. Keep a close eye on the oil level, and listen for any strange noises coming from inside the engine.

I am in Long Beach Ca, I have been keeping an eye on the level, I noticed a big difference as soon as I drained and refilled the engine, I let it run for 2 hours took it for a couple spins, everything seems ok, nostrange noises, oil pressure stays stable, rpm is at 800 rpm, on sunday I am going to flush it again and refill it, I am also going get its compression checked to see if there is any leakage in any cylinder.
thanks for the info. I will keep a close eye and EAR on the engine.
