Just how loud are Dynomax bullets, really?

I am going to be putting long tubes on my car with a 3" collector with enough pipe to go to the rear axle and then mount a muffler with dumps. I want a round muffler like that to make it easier to fit. I hear these mufflers are loud, but just how loud. I want it to be very loud, if there is a louder muffler than these let me know what it it. Right now I'm running magnaflows and by looking at them I thought they were going to be very loud since I can look right through them, but that perforated tube on the inside really lowers the sound.

Powerstick Chamber mufflers will probably be better but I'll be running a Bullet on my car I just don't have any sound clips yet.

So loud that I've had race competitors go look under my car to see if I was running mufflers in a muffler-required class. And that was with the mufflers mounted mid-body and tailpipes from there back to the bumper.

So loud that about the only thing louder is an open pipe.

So loud that I got tired of them after a few months of creeping home in order to avoid any chance of a ticket.

They are not street legal. They are race-only.

Idle - loud rumble.

Cruise - crackly, droning, much interior resonance.

WOT - practically like open pipes.

So loud that a friend of mine can hear me 3/4 of a mile away with the sound traveling through pine trees and around houses. Here's a vid from the track trying out a new carb for the first time.

they are loud when the sound resonates, my fiends car does it about 2500 rpm at [part throttle, you can ealsiy hear him a 1/2 mile away and when he gets on it far away, butif he uses light throttle or stayes under 2500 rpm, its not much louder then my flowmaster while im driving "sprited"

After hearing your respone's and that vid I can believe that Dynomax Race bullets are the loudest muffler ( and is not street legal but who cares, make your neighbors wake up at 3a.m )

I try to be respectful to my neighbors, usually done running or driving around in it before 10pm. During the day though, look out hehe Friend of mine who owns a biz says every time I go past his shop stuff rattles around.

Re: Just how loud are Dynomax bullets, really?

I'm honestly not happy with them either, they're too freakin loud but it's what I had to work with at the time. Never got the chance to make a new exhaust over winter since work has kept me busy. Ever since putting dual 3 inch on, the car pretty much stays parked. I miss driving it around without having people run for their lives cause they think the car is right behind them when it's actually a few hundred feet away.

Re: Just how loud are Dynomax bullets, really?

mines not on the road yet, but I bought a 80 series flowmaster with pre bent 2.5 in tail pipes, for 125 shipped on Ebay, hell I cannot beat that around here, normally its like 90-115 for the 80 series by itself. Since I am not running a cat, I will get a nice y pipe and have a 2.5 inch from there back made and be done with it.

I like the Dynomax and Flowmaster sound, I think the ones that I have heard on here sound ( sound clips) like glorified glasspacks, and I think those sound like CRAP!! But you have to set up flows the right way too to make them sound good.

Good luck finding the sound you like, I have mine..

Is your exhaust a full setup?(from header collector to rear bumper?) Let me know what you lookin for that setup. My buddies 4th gen trans am has the full exhaust setup and it is amazing sounding. The idle is actually quite soft, but you slam the gas and the lt1 will scream to life. It has a rumble at idle, but a raspy, but mean as hell tone as your shifting the gears.

Yes it will be a full set up except mine ends a little past the rear end.

Just look inside one.....you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that they are straight through........I did a 2001 gt mustang for a guy.....x pipe and no mufflers...just x pipe and tails to the back....it was rediculously loud. Needless to say he called me back later to ask if I could install some of those new bullet type cats and 3" summit bullets. When all was said and done, with the bullet cats and mufflers....there was very little difference then the straight pipes.

The magnaflows on my car now are straight through like that, but they quiet it down quite a bit, but that could also be due to the full exhaust system. Well I ordered my bullets yesterday from Jegs.

Abslolutely....the full exhaust does help to tone it down some.....kind of like running turndowns or full tails, big difference.

What does that mean exactly. Turn downs are more muted?

Re: Just how loud are Dynomax bullets, really?

If you run just a turndown (points the exhaust down at the ground right after the muffler) the sound just resonates through the car because it is trapped under the car, whereas if you run a full tail with the same noisy muffler, the car will be easier to live with because the sound will be out behind you and not vibrating the floorboards. Turndowns also tend to kick up alot of dust... so if you just cleaned your car, both you and a bunch of people around your car may need to clean them again when you pull into your parking spot at cruise night.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Wouldn't it make sense that the sound would be muted with the sound being directed down at the ground instead of out the back in full stereo?

Here's what I'm looking at. Headers and a full 3 inch exhaust to the back of the car and the only thing staying is Flowmaster 80 with the stock downs on the car right now. I think there will be a noticeable difference in the exhaust note but it is not going to be as dramatic as straight pipes.

This:

NOT louder than this:

As far as kicking up dust... another plus on the turndown side as far as I am concerned.

No...by turndown I mean a turndown...directly behind the muffler, when the mufflers (true duals) are under the rear seats. Your example shown is a full exhaust system out to the rear of the car. What your showing is just a standard tailpipe, not a turndown. He is asking about the statement about bullets (under the car) with full tails being quieter than turndowns. Running a full tail will get rid of some of the drone or resinance inside the car when running turndowns.

Let me get this right... you got an L98 in Jag? Is that the idea?

Yes its a 5.7tpi/700R4 combo from an 89 iroc. I built a new motor for it last spring but its mostly a cruiser so I retained the stock cam w/ 1.6 rr's. TFS heads, stock GM new L31 shortblock etc. Decent power and mileage. Gotta be different! Some pics

Simply awesome.

I bet adding an L98 decreased the maintenance cost dramtically.

I am in awe.

Swapping in a Chevy small block into any foreign car drops maint. cost. It's nice seeing an SBC that's not an LSx engine getting swapped into an overseas car, though. Those cars are have to be heavy, no?

I've ran both Bullets and Chambered mufflers, the Bullets were SOOO much louder it was insane. Bullets are loud, raw straight up loud. The Chambered's toned it down a whole bunch.

Oh yah.....about 4000lbs with a 2.88 gear it won't win me many races! But I didn't build it for that. Decent power/mileage and cruises @ 75 around 2000 RPM. Fun car on the highway. My racing days are behind me.... Cadillac....thanks for the compliments and yes I can scan it myself and maintain it myself and parts are on the shelf at any parts store!

i do love bullets as they sound amazing...but are freaking race only loud. use them for the track only. tooo much on the street.

i'd do chambered mufflers. a GMMG is a loud system on a healthy car...like this LT1

Re: Just how loud are Dynomax bullets, really?

havent heard the loudmouth 2 but the other loudmouth aint bad sounding... kinda raspy. sounds ok on LS1 cars but on LT1 cars it is deeper. not sure why but the loudmouth is just a big hollow tube resonator...no muffler. it be better to put a bullet on there instead.. ppl call that the dynomouth. sounds better in my opinion

Re: Just how loud are Dynomax bullets, really?

I considered making a "Dynomouth" for my car. One of my best friends works at a exhaust place and can get me crazy deals now. I think I'm going to enlarge my ypipe, get a 3" cat and i-pipe and do the dynomouth setup so I have 2 tips out the back, or throw the bullet in stock location, tuck it up as high as it can go and hide it all. Should have a sound clip and pictures in a month or so.

I can't wait

The loudmouth is raspy makes you car sound more like a V6. Better off going with the GMMG it sounds the best by far and cost $750

Or just buy the mufflers for 50 bucks each and make your own.
