another dual exhaust install!

well today i decided to get rid of the stock setup, even though it was flowmaster.
Now i have true dual 40s exiting right in front of the rear tires. here she is

yes my ground clearance kinda sucks, but it is well worth it! this car is going to be mostly track, and the drive there anyways.

The nice thing about the install was all the guy had to do was cut just beneath the flanges on my shorties, and rotate the pipe. Soon i will add an h pipe through the channel where the driver side pipe originally went. i will also post a vid tomorrow.

Re: another dual exhaust install!

That looks cool, but ya...the clearance issue sucks! You can forget about ever lowering your car! I would love to one day run dual exhaust on my ride, but have to figure out some way to really tuck in the pipes, since my car is slammed.

Re: another dual exhaust install!

I wanted to do the same thing but I have a pretty high curb into my driveway which has already bent up my mufflers a tad. My ground clearance is like maybe 3-4 inches and I know for sure any pipe under the ground fx would definetly hit the curb and probably crush the pipe shut or something. I have the same flowmaster mufflers and it's damn loud but sounds oh so freakin' good ("love that sound!"). I got some spring spacers to actually raise my car a half inch or inch or so just so I have some clearance, but I was thinking about just continuing to run the pipes straight back, both pipes over the axle on their own side and exit them right behind the rear bumper at a downward angle but hidden much like the first gens' systems. If I ever get it done I'll post some pics...

Re: another dual exhaust install!

we tried hard to conceal them, there are channels on each side we tried to get into, and there are bulges under the front seat area which the mufflers were in. I will get a clip here shortly, i have to walk the dogs.
the other thing that made me realize i dont have clearance, is i couldnt even get off the lift. They had to lift up the front of the car.

Badass355ciz28, you have a really nice setup there. I'm not a fan of mounting the mufflers back there but you did a really nice job. Those look like Magnaflows, how do you like them?

Re: another dual exhaust install!

thankyou and yes they are magnaflow.they feature a straight thru flow design unlike the flowmaster's with chambers and they sound very mean when your on the throttle

Re: another dual exhaust install!

just did mine but i dont have the ground clearance like badass's, thats a nice setup but ur undercarage looks diff than mine...prob suz mines a firebird. its also easier for u bc u have a manual trans and ur crossmemeber gives u adaquate room. my dual 3" mandrel exhaust with xpipe post is a few lower and i had to notch the stock subframes and my mufflers are the lowest point. got a few inches ground clearance with the sportlines on, if i get rid of the mufflers i can get an extra 1.5".

love the sound of it especially with the xpipe, and instead of the Hpipe go wit an xpipe they make more power and have a better tone

Re: another dual exhaust install!

i had to customize my crossmember a lil bit and it is alot harder to run duals with a munual trans then an automatic sine im running long tube headers

Re: another dual exhaust install!

customblackbird, all thirdgens have the same floor pan and under carriage. Camaros and Firebirds are the same.

MR.IROC-Z, Your car is georgous and you seem like a pretty particular guy to me. I dont think you will like the muffler location on Badass355's setup. His ground clearance is very good and his quality of work is superior, but with the mufflers mounted at the back like that you will be able to see them. That is why I did not go with a setup like that. It is personal prefrence, but I dont like seeing mufflers hang below the rear ground effects, but thats just me. I dont want to discredit his work in any way, his exhaust is very well built and I am sure works well, but you will see the mufflers for sure.

Badass355 I have a TKO600 and I felt like I actually had more room because I didnt have to go below or around a trans mission pan. Granted our Tremec transmissions ride 2" lower than a stock T5 so that is not in our favor, but I still think I was better off with out an automatic. My pipes off the headers are actually between the transmission case and the subframe, then I notched my cross member to keep the pipes tucked up.

i am usine heddman headers long tubes.about 135.00 from jegs or summit, now if you are using a stock k member you should install a set of energy suspension engine mounts since one of the primary tubes will hit the k member. i have a tubular k member from pro fab that i managed to pick up from someone real cheap. on the driver side since i have a manual transmission and the bracket on the bellhousing for the clutch slave is low i had to cut some material off the collector area and weld up a plate and a few other things and then it fit in perfectly. the passenger side fit perfectly. then i shaved some material off the crosmember for the tranny and welded some plates on top for durability. after that i picked up a u-fit 2.5 inch dual exhast kit from flowmaster. i hung the mufflers first where i wanted them and ran the exhasut from the back towards the front that way i owuld know exactly how i wanted the system to sit. i spent a total of 480.00 for a complete exhaust setup since i didnt have to pay anyone to install it or weld. i am an auto tech by trade and i do it as a hobby too

Re: another dual exhaust install!

That is quite a bit better than I thought. I didnt think a full case style muffler would fit back there like that appears to. those are tucked up pretty nicely. Do you have any shots of the car directly from the side? I still suspect the muffler case is lower than the exhaust tips are, but honestly that doesnt look near as bad as other rear muffler setups I've seen.

Re: another dual exhaust install!

yea im running the same longtubes as u and i kno for a fact that the manual trans has more room bc ive heard it a million times before that auto's shroud is larger than the manuals not to mention the casing and the pan, just as 1meanz stated. the long tubes poke out right between the shroud and the subframes actually already tucked up there, to run true duals your would have to notch the subframes/tranny member for groundclearance bc theres no other way to do it. ive spent alot of time under the car doin the subframes/tranny work, exhaust more than once and i can tell that the undercarage of ur camaro baddass is diff than mine, to me it seems as if the stock subframe is really straight on yours on the driver side where mine is more curved and does not hang as low...idk and i know they are the same cars same platform etc, just looks diff to me. watever the case may be exhaust looks good man CHEERS!
