hooker headers
i ve heard all about how good the hooker 2055 are and was wondering if hooker makes a set of headers and y pipe that fit our cars and doesnt have the AIR tubes it looks like all the ones that dont are all long tubes any ideas i have flowtech headers and y pipe but was thinking of upgrading to the hookers

Hooker shorty headers are a very popular item on
this forum. Having just spent a couple of hours
on the Holley web-site, comparing the technical
differences, I thought I would summarize the info
for public dispersal, including the catalog images
(which are reasonably informative, when viewed
comparatively). Quotation enclosure is taken from
the tech data sheets, dashes indicate my comments.
2055 series, 86-90 F-bodies
2055HKR -> painted
2055-1HKR -> ceramic
-> both include y-pipe adapter, w/ 3" outlet
-- Differing opinions exist on the board, of the
ball-socket connection, from restrictive (which
can be opened up), to structural strength.
"Accomodates all emission devices"
-- Air tubes attached, and drilled O2 bung.
"Will fit angle plug heads"
-- Hooker tech rep assured me they were still
in production, but I couldn't find Jeg's
or Summit listing's.
-- Tech Data sheet dated 10-22-04

I have the 2460 1HKR with the ypipe. I did not have to raise my engine at all to get them in. The biggest challenge you face is removing the old manifolds if they are still there. I modified the ypipe so that I could get a 3" system all the way back-fairly easy for any shop to do. I love the system I have-check sig.

Good to hear from someone with real experience.
What is the spark plug boot clearance, any

so are the hooker 2055HKR, and the 2055 1HKR the same cause looking on summit the 2055 1hkr's dont appear to have airtube, and everything else appeared to be the same except that??and it doesnt show picture of y-pipe but it says it comes with it

92RS: The info I presented was taken from the Holley/Hooker
web site, so I can't vouch for what's on the Summit site.
They have a pretty good customer service reputation, so
at worst, give them a call.
hot: If the angle boots on all plugs clear, without burning
(thats the overheating I was inquiring of), is the info
I wanted.

skater, I think that is the part #. yes I did use the recommended ypipe. the only problem is that where the exhaust exits, it is not 3". So my local shop had to widen it when they went to connect the rest of the system to the end of the ypipe. I replaced my whole system as it was falling off, so what I did was assemble the whole system with the clamps that were provided, except for the part that connects the ypipe with the rest of the system, then drove it to the shop, headers only, (boy did that sound crazy), they made or ordered the part that I needed in 3", welded all joints together to complete the job. It has been recommended on this forum,that all the joints be welded, even by Hooker. I am glad I had the cash to do it. Now I don't ever have to worry about it coming loose. I cannot imagine this system sounding any better than it does. Hope this helps.

I just put the 2055's on my 88 Iroc. The biggest PIA is gettting the old manifolds off. As for the rest well here it is. I used Taylor Spiro 8mm wires with the 90 degree plug boots. This set you cut to length and make the ends for the distributor, a perfect fit. I used the Delco platinum plugs. Some of the plugs you can get easily with a std. 5/8 plug socket and a 3/4 wrench, for the rest I have a cut down modified plug socket from Hawks that worked perfectly. I used 3/4in stage 8 locker bolts and Felpro manifold gaskets. Finished with Moroso wire looms. The new Ypipe I put into a Magnaflow free flow cat. I cut away the cat a.i.r. tube but retained the tubes for the headers just in case I need xtra H2o to pass emissions. last night though I pulled the air pump and diverter. If I have to I'll reconnect it when it comes time for inspection next yr, Joe

92rs, so you weld the y pipe to the headers, what if you need to dissassemble again???

I have the 2460 headers I just saw the y pipe in summit for $200 is there anyone with an updated les expensive piece or someone who wants to sell their y pipe?

The short answer is they don't make any headers without the A.I.R. tubes that are as good as the 2055's.
But, you can make 2055's without A.I.R. tubes pretty easily. It's called "cut & weld".
If you search on 2055 and my username, you'll find an example.

Probably a stupid question, but the Hooker 2055 shouldn't have any trouble hooking onto aftermarket heads, right? I have a 305 right now and I wanna get the full Hooker exhaust - then trade up to a 350 with either World Products SR Torquer heads or Sportsman II's. Everything's already drawn out, but I just need to be 100% on this part.
