X-pipe
So Im debating on if I should use an X pipe on my exhaust or not. Im currently building an exhaust for my 90 RS project car. So far I got the header extensions and a pair of Bullet mufflers. I was planing on just slapping some turn downs on the mufflers an be done with it but then I started to do some research on X pipes and I dont know if i should get one or not/ Do they help out performance that much? How do they effect noise output? I was looking at the summit kit that is about $70 and was considering that one. What should I do? Thanks

Re: X-pipe
i did it, headman long tubes, headman header extenstions/sbends, 3" summit universal Xpipe with force muffler 3" turndowns. i had a true dual set up before but i bought sportlines so i needed more clearance, lol its gona be a pan in the ARSS but u should get it with some inginuety my xpipe is set up right infront of the torque arm mount at the rear of the trans. i knoticed it made my exhaust a lil quieter but above 2300rpms the tone completely changes, my 3" duals is alot of exhaust and i felt slight HP decrease down low but now it loves to rev and makes more power uptop and man does it sound amazing, hate to say it but it sounds alil like a stang/chevy but def sounds better than a stang. DO ITTTT!!!
----------
as far as performance, i have an artice from CHP and they did a test on a 350 with 3" duals and then tested an Hpipe and Xpipe, the Hpipe made some extra power over the true duals but the Xpipe is far much better and more efficent i think they gained 30hp/30ftlbs between 3000 and 5200 rpms with the xpipe, u feel when it kicks in bc the change in tone is dramatic, it mellows the exhaust not alil, like a mellow deep tone until u rev it and then its niiiiiiiiceeeeee.

Re: X-pipe
i did a post in this section on it, i would search it, i also had sum pics up in the suspension section. i dont have great exhaust clearance but its bc of the box mufflers i have they are the lowest point, spiral mufflers would give me alot more. i also knotched the stock subframes and tucked the exhaust up so that i could get more clearance bc i hated having pipes bent over the tranny crossmember in my first setup. i can tell u that the exhaust up front doesnt sit lower than my deep trans pan. if u really want i can post sum.

Re: X-pipe
i agree with customblackbird, i built a new 3" dual system with an x-pipe and moroso spirals and it's pretty wicked sounding. though it cut my clearance in half in comparrison to my h-piped 2.5" system, which is going back on the car this weekend. the cut in low end power was pretty intense. but, the system is going in the shed and going back on the car once a larger motor is built.

just built my own x pipe for the race car long tube headers 3 inch pipes to x and two bullet muffler with turn downs lots quieter and sounds really cool ...and just rubs the trailer when loading oh yeah also put a hanger from the two mufflers to the driveshaft loop...keep it simple right btw started wendsday after work finished friday at like 6 30 then took the car to the track
had to hear it driven in anger...went about 120 in the 1/8 with not a whole lot of traction on the line
