Formula With Sidepipes
Formula With Sidepipes
So I'm completely rebuilding a 1987 Formula and decided I wanted to do something different. I got a set of Patriot 80" side pipes PTE-H1080. They looked good when i did a mock up with them, and i'm not having any technical issues, i was just wondering if anyone else had done this or seen it done and what you think.

How did this go from my firbird getting sidepipes, to camaros with turbos and sidepipes? I know camaros and firebirds are (basically) the same thing, but has anyone seen another FIREBIRD with sidepipes?

Re: Formula With Sidepipes
RegnittoFormula,
Yes, like everyone said, and like everyting else, it can look good if done right. You need to bring the old round fender corvette look to the table, with big fat tires, not lowered, pretty plain looking car, red or black or white, a way too big rattley cam, too bad you couldn't add a split back window.
I can see it in my mind, looks good to me. Post a picture when you get it built so we can all have a good look.
Of course wheels through the hood look nice too.

I'm one of the guys that thinks sidepipes look absolutely terrible on our cars. The sidepipes and the front turn signals ruin that purple camaro in this thread.

Oh God no, but I can dream
. Good find BTW, I posted that video too. The owner of that Camaro, Vulcan McClellan, races that at my track, PIR. He was the champion last year of the Outlaw class. I think those side pipes look pretty good, especially on a car that does the quarter in 8.5 sec at about 160 MPH.
back on topic, I think that only certain third gens can pull off that side pipe look. Personally I would love to see side pipes that are more like side exit but run the length of the car covered by and incorporated into the GFX. Like the Cervini C500 mustang, Rousch Mustang, Viper, etc.

I looked for puke emote--there is none---I had to settle for the 0.02.
May as well knock out some teeth, grow ****** and call yourself Jethro. Looks getto and trashy. Do not make the pretty Firebirds look this way! please
Re: Formula With Sidepipes
That was kinda my thoughts as well, although that last Camaro doesn't look as bad. I wonder if on the 91-92 'Bird you could tuck them up in the GFX or something custom, that might not look too bad.

Re: Formula With Sidepipes
Thats what I'm doing. I'm gonna keep it hidden behind the GFX and have double tips stick out about 1/2, and I'm making my own not buying them already made.
Everything is built not bought.
Re: Formula With Sidepipes
to those who think sidepipes are trashy, i respect your opinion, however, there is no need for any name calling or things of that nature toward those of us who do like it. It's immature and rude. It's ok to say you don't like the idea, but leave it at that.

Re: Formula With Sidepipes
Looks like a lightening, but to do that I think you'd have to cut the floorboard to raise it on our cars, else the pipes would be going through the cabin.

Re: Formula With Sidepipes
yeah i think it's a lightning too, only because you can see where the cab is split from the bed.
Re: Formula With Sidepipes
You're right, I didn't even notice the split at first.
I'll have to put my car up in the air and see if there would be anywhere to hide those. Probably have to end up doing something real custom like that Camaro w/ the NASCAR pipes.

Re: Formula With Sidepipes
I like the Boom Tubes better,IMHO.
The side pipes look OK, IF they are the right length. The red Firebird above has pipes that look too short, for or, like on or cars, to me. Longer tubes look better, like on the white Camaro pic posted afterwards. Also the inlet appearance makes a difference. I like the look of the individual tubes going in it, vs. the one large inlet tube showing.

Re: Formula With Sidepipes
No offense to anyone, but I'm not a fan of side-pipes. I used to have them on a Corvette I had. I agree that they do give cars a distinct look.
However, keep in mind that, in the summer when you are wearing shorts and get out of your car, its VERY easy to burn yourself on the pipes. I found out the hard way
Just my 2 cents.
Best of luck

Re: Formula With Sidepipes
Anymore Pictures or Comments about side Pipes? I have air shocks and the rear is lifted up a bit, getting beffy Tires in the back, theres Plenty of Ground clearance, I would take of the Ground effects near the door so they wouldnt melt or whatever.

Re: Formula With Sidepipes
This is a pic of the exhaust i just finished up on my car, its more of a side exit exhaust than sidepipes, i think that big chrome sidepipes look a bit gaudy so i decided to keep the pipes tucked underneath the car and just have the tip showing a bit.
