Important Hooker 2055 Question!!!!
i just got my 2055s yesterday!
i opened them up, they looke real nice, but i noticed that the end of the y pipe where it goes into the cat is tapered down to a circle....how is this going to fit my stock converter?....i know for a fact someone out there has had this problem too, and maybe i just dont know what im talking about, but i really need to mount my y-pipe to the stock catylitic converter....please any help is necessary...im putting these headers on this weekend....also do they make non-AIR 2055s?.......thanks a lot

it will fit 86 and up TPI with stock 3" single cat without modification. yours needs to be modified to fit or just replace the cat with a 86 and up and modify your catback, much easier. These have air tubes only because they are emissions compatible. Sounds like you needed to do some more research before you purchased these.

i knew they were for 86 and up before i bought them, so i guess i didnt really do my research...but other than that, they appear to fit fine...ive heard so much about the 2055s, why dont they make them for 82-85?...ill just work with what i have and modify it to fit...it should work, but thanks for the help.

Economics. Too many different cat configurations during that time. They shot for the most likely market that would see the most benefit as a bolt-in.
I'd hate to see you modify that sweet y-pipe to fit your converter. Unless you have access to welding equipment, a shop is going to charge you as much to modify the y-pipe to fit the stock cat as a direct-fit '86-'90 TPI single cat would cost you. The cat connection to the cat-back will still need modification, most likely, but that's a much more palatable approach, IMHO.

Re: Important Hooker 2055 Question!!!!
ok guys...i know SOMEONE out there has made this same mistake i have (if its really a mistake). i love my headers, and it worrying me a lot, so i think this is what im going to do: take my stock cat (gutted) weld on about 2 inches of 3.25" exhaust tubing over the opening, then when i mount the ypipe i can slip the 3" ypipe into the 3.25" cat opening thingy and then use a exhaust clamp to seal it up...im open for any other suggestions, but i want to keep the stock cat, that is a requirement. please guys thanks for the help, and more help would be EXTREMELY appreciated!

Cats with stock air tubes that are plugged tend to clog up....I dont know if gutting it helps keep it clean and free of build up but yeah...stock cats blow....meaning they blow dogs for quarters. LMAO.

Modifying the cat as you described is a good approach.
I'm not sure where this "no A.I.R. = clogged cat" comes from. I ran mine for 4 years w/o A.I.R., hooked it back up, and sailed through emissions testing.
