i have these headers for my 86 camaro.

they dont have the little silver tubes on top like the stock manifolds, do i actually need those? i dont care about emissions, how should i install these headers and remove the little silver tubes?

the lil silver tubes come off with the stock headers and if there in your way cut them off with a hack saw or jig saw...but dont just cut them off and drive like that they leak like mad..there just for the emissions for the cat or something...i ditched them a while ago..i dnt have 1 piece of emissions left

i notice in your sig you also switched to non-computer q-jet... what did you do first the carb or the headers? i have a edelbrock 600cfm performer carb i could put on... but will my camaro run fine with that emissions stuff removed and still run the stock carb? i took off my smog pump belt one time and caused a shitload of problems

Re: hooker shorties

ya it ran like crap...id do the carb first...u also will need a vacuum advanced distributor...then ditch the emissions and install headers...in the end it makes a big differance and alot more torque

See sig. No A.I.R., no EGR. Runs fine. Don't know what happened when you took your A.I.R. belt off, but it didn't have anything to do with the A.I.R. pump not rotating.

The Performer carb replacing the stock CC q-jet is a downgrade that many people do that I will just never, ever understand. Never. You do understand that the Performer carb won't bolt to a stock intake manifold, right?

Installing those headers will require reducers from the collectors (which came with the headers from Hooker) and modification to the stock downpipes. The downpipes, y-pipe, cat, and exhaust on back continue the restriction that started with the stock manifolds. Until you eliminate the rest of the restrictions, the headers aren't going to help much. A little, but not nearly as much as they could if the rest of the exhaust was upgraded as well.

Take the carb off and the ECM controls nothing.

Including your torque converter clutch, which if not operating, will burn out the 3-4 clutch pack in your transmission.

Unless you do what it takes to make it right. First thing is to get the throttle arm geometry right so the TV cable operates correctly. That doesn't have anything to do with the ECM.

Next you have to provide a means for locking up the torque converter under cruise. Without that, your 3-4 clutch pack is not long for this world.

Of course, none of this has anything to do with exhaust. . .
