I have a 92 z28. I was planning on getting Hooker 2055(w/ Y pipe) Catco catalytic convereter(Summit #-CTO-9118) and hooker cat-back(summit #-HOK-16823HKR). Has anybody else run this set up or something like it. How much horsepower gain should I expect if I also do some kind of cold air or ram air intake. Will it all bolt in easily, because I can weld.
----------
can the installation be done with jack, jack stands and hand tools? If I am planning on putting on sub-frme connectors, should I putt them on after to give me more room to install the exhaust?

I've been running that set-up for some time now. It's a direct-fit system and will require no welding or modding--at least it didn't on my car. You should be able to install the system in your garage with basic handtools (headers always seem to require extra effort, cursing, beer, and occasionally divorce). My SFC's were already welded in at the time the exhaust was installed.

Re: Exhaust questions about this set up
I'm looking for a set of jack stands and jack. Most of them come with two jack stands. Is it possible to do the exhaust upgrade with two? It doesn't seem like it would be very safe, but I guess you only ever really need one side of the car up at a time. Sears sells craftsman sets really cheap. Anybody know if they are safe. I dont want the car coming down on me.

Jegs website says that the 2055 headers only fit on camaros up to 1990. Mine is a 92. Will it fit?

the catalytic converter isn't supposed to fit either, but the one for my year is 2.5 in inlet rather then a 3 in like this one. Will it work?

Anybody have a heat wrap for the headers to recommend or are they all pretty much the same?

Re: Exhaust questions about this set up
don't heatwrap headers on a DD since they will rot out

Daily driver.

Also you dont want to use a cat with a 2.5" in, the hooker 2055's come with a 3" out y-pipe so run a 3" system all the way back.

I am not running a cat but if you must run one I would get a high flow 3" in and 3" out.

The Catco 9118 is a 3-inch direct fit for both the Hooker Y pipe and the Hooker catback.

Re: Exhaust questions about this set up
On a stock 305 you might gain 10 or 20hp on top but at the same time you are probably going to lose some bottom end torque...it is one of those well worth it upgrades though because if you dont free up the exhaust it will choke any HP gains in the future if you mod your motor with cam and heads ect ect.

PS: In the future remember that torque wins races and HP sells parts...lol! You want a nice flat tq curve, you could have a 450hp motor and 200ft pounds of tq and I could have a 375hp motor and 400ft pounds of TQ (Which I have) and I will beat you!

Re: Exhaust questions about this set up
Just upgrade your exhaust to a 3" with headers and get a set of 373 or 411 gears as your next mod and you will have a huge smile
