Passenger side header pinned to the frame...

i got a 89 Camaro used to be a v6 ..but now has a 305 v8 and had all the iroc-z body parts..anyway i put some headers on it those cheap flowtech headers this is the link..
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?
autofilter=1∂=BIG%2D11116FLT&N=700+4294908216+
4294923429+4294839039+4294908198+4294924930+115&autoview=sku

the header just barely fits on the passenger side b/c the flange is against the frame and and that makes it leak ive stuffed gaskets in there for a temp fix. but i need to fix this bout the only thing i know to do is heat up the bends of the header and bend them till they fit or notch the frame.. anyone had this problem before? is so what did u do?

Re: Passenger side header pinned to the frame...

that flange can rotate a little to give you more clearance, if not dent the frame rail or put in new motor mounts if yours sag, etc etc

yes take a ball peen hammer and just give it a whack, it'll bend in the amount needed no problem, don't cut the frame rails over the cheapest headers known to man.

Re: Passenger side header pinned to the frame...

You need new motor mounts. Did you replace the v6 mounts when you added the v8? you shouldnt have to dent anything.

Re: Passenger side header pinned to the frame...

ya i replaced them i dont think that the v6 motor mounts would work at all...its probly just these cheap headers..

so it looks like im gunna have to dent it a good bit are you talking about heating it up with the torch and denting it? or just beating it to death till it fits? lol (sorry i dont do alot of metal work)

Re: Passenger side header pinned to the frame...

If you dent a 1 1/2 inch header you might as well not run it. I had the same headers and they fit fine. However, They didnt add any noticable performance at all and raised my under hood temps in the process. I had this problem wiith a set of heddman headers and when i replaced the squishy old motor mount with a poly mount it fit fine.

V6 mounts fit the v8, I had to use them a few years back when I was in a pinch.

Re: Passenger side header pinned to the frame...

im talking about denting the frame not the header and i doubt that bushings will help its not too high or too low its just too far to the left (passenger side) and headers do give more power if what u had on it was old manifolds, sounds better too lol

Re: Passenger side header pinned to the frame...

if it's more than 1/4" you have some issues.

Re: Passenger side header pinned to the frame...

I wouldnt go denting your frame for a set of 100$ headers. If the flange is the problem why not grind it down a little?
