exhaust issue/?'s

i'm building a 413 sbc for my 91 rs, and i'm trying to plan everything before i actually drop it in, i've been hearing that true dual is difficult to put in a 3rd gen, i know it can be done but i dont have a pipe bender and i dont take my car anywhere, so my ? is, would it be ok to run straight header?,maybe header to straight pipe?
i dont want any headaches with this car ever again, so i'm trying to minimize that situation, any ideas?
let me know
thx

Are we talking a street driven car? Track-only car?

This is about the simplest set-up with no tube bending equipment required (although welder required) I've seen on the Board.

Crazy loud would be Dynomax Bullets in place of the Summit welded's.

I'm more of a "sleeper" guy myself. Crazy flow with whisper quiet (still on that quest).

The Bullets are $40 & $42 each for 2-1/2" & 3", respectively, from summitracing.com.

Technically, they are "racing" mufflers and not street-legal.

I disagree...

I have a Texas Speed & Performance Rumbler cat back, which has a Dynomax Bullet. Quiet is an understatemen!

At cruising speed, it is almost not there at all. Even at WOT, you know it is there, but LOUD, is not a way I would refer to it.

I'm considering a Flowmaster bullet, with a side exit. That'll make your ears perk up!

Having had dual Bullets on longtubes with tailpipes to the rear bumper, I can attest to "crazy loud".

What happens in a single tube system (where they put the "Bullet mufflers" in that system I can't tell from the photo, doesn't look like at the end) I don't know.

Of course, the exact definition of "crazy loud" is in the ear of the beholder. . .

Re: exhaust issue/?'s

The Dynomax muffler is about 6" behind the (in my case) Dynomax cat, then piped to the rear, just like stock (just with mandrel bends, 3" etc.)

Here is a video of my car, just normally driving, pulling out of a parking spot. The white GTA, the 4th car to pull out. It's so quit, it's like I have no engine!

About all I can hear on any of that is jerky background hissing, and a few clicks from whatever the person with the camcorder was doing in his car.

No cat will make a big difference with the Bullets, too.

Re: exhaust issue/?'s

I hear the in car noises too, but you can't hear any of the cars, as they leave?

I know a cat muffles the sound too, I just can't see it as "DAMN! THAT CAR IS LOUD!" VS "You sure it is running?"

Re: exhaust issue/?'s

Most of them are pretty mild.

The black RS is a LS1, but to get it running and going, he had started with stock manifolds. The guy who shot the video...

LS1 longtubes, no exhaust pipes

That's me sitting 3 feet in front of the car...SOUND ASLEEP! I hadn't slept the night before, so I had been awake for about 35+ hours, at that point!

Most states require the exhaust to exit beyond the passenger compartment.

As for the effect, different strokes for different folks, I guess. I couldn't stand the Bullets on my once-a-week-during-the-summer-months driver.

Of course, I am a mature, responsible citizen, too. . .
