exhaust install

im planing on getting a pair of shorty headers soon and i was wondering, do you have to lift the block a little to install them or can you squeze them in there? also what is the best high flow cat to use on these cars or are they basicaly all the same? i would like it to have a good muscle car sound to it.

Re: exhaust install

ive gotten mine in without lifting the engine, its tight, though mine were
slp 1 3/4 headers. the hoses and stuff will get in the way a bit, but you should be fine.

Re: exhaust install

I just put my SLP headers back in today. Had them out to clean them up and paint them. I undid the steeringand the master cyl from the brake booster to move it over a bit. Drivers side was a little harder than the passengers but didn't take too long. Then again I have no AC or A.I.R. tubes anywhere so that make life a lot easier.

Re: exhaust install

My hedman shorties went in without jacking up the engine but I had the factory crap in there so it took me 2-3 days to get the install done. I know a lot of ppl like the CATCO 9118 cat, thats what Im using now and its good.

Re: exhaust install

draglover,
I have installed mac-performance headers on my car and edelbrock on a friends camaro. On both I had to unbolt the valve covers and got them in place from the top. Im using the 9118 catco with hoocker cat back. It sounds sportier then stock and louder.

Re: exhaust install

my hedmans had to have the engine lifted about 3" and the brake lines out of the master cyl. rubs the header. you have to bend it a little. i've had no adverse effects due to bending the brake line a little. And on a side note if i had to do it again i would really get long tubes instead.
