my starter with hooker LT's?
well i already know the answer to that one lol, and that is that it wont happen. My starter is aftermarket and a fair bit smaller then stock, however im not sure if it qualifies as a true mini-starter.
you can see how tight it is in this pic, the tubes are pressed right against the starter (have the #8 tube still out was just test fitting). I only have 1 bolt in the flange, to get the rest of them in the #2 tube needs to come down a hair meaning the headers need to push on the starter even harder

heres the starter out of the car, it measures 8" with the block, not including where the gear sticks past the block. And its a 1" thick block on the front of it.

what do i need to do to make this work? is there a smaller starter that someone can give me a part number for that would solve the issue?

I had the same problem with my Hookers and it looks like you have the same stater as I do. I ended up marking the header were the starter makes contact, and then took off the header and with a ball pean hammer I put a small dent in the header. And then I put the header back on, problem solved. It shouldn't hurt the header or the performance.

Re: my starter with hooker LT's?
i wouldnt even try
i still need the front of the flange to come down a tiny bit to get to the bolt hole for the head to line up, and that tiny bit at the flange is a crap load of clearance down at the bottom.
im up for buying a new starter if theres a specific model that fit

I had to "reclock" my starter to fit with my headers (not the same as yours). luckily my starter had that provision. it moves the solenoid more inboard, closer to the block.

Re: my starter with hooker LT's?
lol well i managed to find a position where the starter fits.
there are 3 holes in the starter to put the indexing screws through and you only use 2 of them. I found a position on the block where i only have 1 screw in but its sitting where i need it.
its enough to get me to a shop, it realistically wouldnt be an issue if my indexing block had more positions on it

an s10 starter from a 90 ish model is a factory mini starter (4x4 4.3L) fit like a champ on mine.
when i went with a high compression motor, i had a 12 way adj unit i put the solenoid at the bottom to gain maximum clearance.
those hookers are a bitch.

Re: my starter with hooker LT's?
good to know, my biggest issue was lack of points on the block, i found one where i could only get one of the two screws in but it works for now until i can get a better block
lol i half took apart my starter and i think i broke it tho

Re: my starter with hooker LT's?
thatd be cool if its not too much trouble.
mine seems to be clearing okay now but if it ever dies on me if im going to buy a new one might as well get the smallest one you can
mines 8" long including the 1" block, any idea how large the powermaster xs one is?

Re: my starter with hooker LT's?
the hitachi brand starter is far the best and smallest.
it sounds like a stock starter, not one of those cheap mini starters that sound like your battery is going dead when you crank it.
if you cant find them on the web, call speed unlimited in pensacola florida.
they keep them in stock and ship out UPS every day.
850 455 1341 or 1342.
